I also just want to add, had it not been for the kindness or humanity shown by a German soldier then I wouldn't be around here to make this post today as my Great Grandfather pretended to lye dead on the field with the enemy hovering up and down him with a fully loaded weapon which went up and down him before leaning down merely to take a cigarette out of his top pocket, light it up and then walk away........
![]() We are now less than 2 hours to kick off with the Auld enemy and yes it is just a qualification game but its more than that, its about pride, its about bragging rights and its about history. Scotland playing England is bigger than any other match to me on the planet. The fixture is steeped in history and already my nerves are shattered and a ball hasn't even been kicked yet ![]() [hidden image - please register] I'm not going to make any score prediction but lets just say all the pressure will be on the English, let battle commence ![]() |

I also don't think that FIFA are fully aware of why we do it. They view it as political, yes you could make some small argument as to it being that way but in reality its seen as a mark of respect which we like to show to those who laid their lives down for the country. In war there is no winners, just victims. The poppy is a symbol of peace and remembrance. Its the very least we can do, it has nothing whatsoever to do with VE Day and if it did then I would fully understand FIFAs standpoint. Good and evil exist on both sides of the fence and celebrating a symbol of peace should be a united gesture. No way this is political, it' s only a mark of respect, as you say, but what else can you expect by those who have respect for nothing except the money ? ![]() There are players in every league who receive yellow or red cards just for showing under their shirts a message for a team mate who is seriously injured or even dead, it' s unbelievable, I can agree about punishing political messages, but not about personal feelings for people who are injured or dead. |

Talking of FIFA, they have no power over the way the European leagues are run because if they did Scotland's game would go bankrupt as having your league sponsored by Ladbrokes isn't ideal as they are a gambling company but they bring vital money to the very existence of the club teams and William Hill which is another gambling firm provides the sponsor for the Scottish Cup. Both do not conform to FIFA's strict policy's. Funny how an organisation such as them should have such self righteous high morales after all the years of corruption and back door payments these lot have been up to ![]() |

However, my personal viewpoint is that England, Scotland and Wales are absolutely right and FIFA, as always, is absolutely wrong and I see no reasons to reject their requests, I really hope FIFA will let them do what they want. |

A poppy is something which we here in the UK wear every November to commemorate the millions of souls who have lost their lives throughout the course of the wars. It has been a gesture ever since the end of World War 1, we mark the occasion on the 11th November every year and at 11AM a one minute silence is obeyed which is then followed by The Last Post. I have had the honour of carrying out this duty over the years, however during the one minute silence I have to quietly blow air through the instrument in order to keep it warm so that I am ready to play as soon as the one minute silence is finished. [hidden image - please register] On Friday which will be the 11th is when England play Scotland, all players will be looking to mark the occasion with the home top looking like this. [hidden image - please register] Its the one day of the year where we remember those who laid their lives down for us whilst defending our country's democracy. Fifa however has banned anything which they deem to be political - [hidden link - please register] This Friday although Scotland and England may be enemies on the football pitch we will stand united and take whatever punishment FIFA aim to dish out ![]() I made a reference to the EU as just like the EU, FIFA is dictating a gesture which has long been embedded into British history all because of FIFA's draconian outdated rules when it comes to slogans which they deem offensive, FIFA even bans any team that is sponsored by an Alcoholic beverage or gambling related of displaying it when they are playing in a European match hence the reason Celtic have been turning out in the Champions League in just the hoops minus the dafabet logo. |

I appreciate the fact that this Thread is kept going in some kind of format but seriously folk, a Thread entitled discussion, where is it, do none of you lot give a shit about discussing the merits of the game, hence the reason I won't be bothering my arse anymore to post anymore footie reviews
![]() More alarming than this is the fact that not one single forum member has even mentioned the fact that FIFA has put in a poppy ban and has threatened sides who dare to defy them by wearing them with sanctions, however both Scotland and England have stood up to this and will quite rightly defy this order.
