Amazon in 2011 was recognized as one of the 7 wonders of the world. The Amazon River is the second longest
(6,400 kilometers) in the world after the Nile. It has more than 1,100 tributaries, 17 of which more than 1,500 kilometers.
It is surrounded by tropical forest, which covers territory belonging to nine countries: Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela,
Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. Vast forest areas are flooded every rainy season.
