FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa - Discussion

Between june the 11th and july the 11th are probably most of the forum members more in just one ball interested than in the two or more 'balls' on the screen.

So I open this thread for the discussion about the championship and to avoid too much off topic discussion in other threads.

So as always:

Being there is everything. and May the best team win.

Re: FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa - Discussion

After some soulsearching and cooling down period I must say in general I feel to reach positive goals you must always use positive methods (not just in soccer but with everything you do). In this respect The Dutch attitude in the final fell short. However I would like to ask, would you critisize David for using a slingshot to fight off Goliath? This may not be the most knightly (I mean chivalry but this word seems spelled wrong) way, but to question the tactics of a coach who won every match he played right up to the final only loosing to the world champion with a score only 3 minutes before the end of the extra time on a dubious refferee judgement is a little hard.

The last thing I want to say is congratulations to South Africa for the fabulous way the tournament could take place. I hope this gives pride to the entire African continent and makes it possible for the people of Africa to break the chains of corrupt government an move away from poverty and oppression. Anything is possible, but you have got to really want it, work together and occasionally make sacrifise to in the end overcome.

Re: FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa - Discussion

The discussion about referee's decisions can be infinite. I say only that, in the yesterday's match, it would have been more right to decide the victory through the penalty kicks.

However at the end there is a positive thing for all: it doesn't heard more the vuvuzela's sound Big Grin.

Spain to deserve to win, Van vommel not tape-worm that not to finish the match, and karate kid de Jong either, puyol deserve in this play the second yellow one but Holland I defraud in this match.

I preffer to have played the final with Germany.

The attitude of Wesley Snejder Disgusting, it goes of victim when they stuck + that nobody,

Champion Spain ...............

@ Tarl

True, but what about Puyol holding Robben on the edge of the 16 on his way to a possible score it should have been Puyols second yellow, what about two Dutch players broken through being brougt down, the ref might have pulled a red one for those fouls, what about Heitinga sent off with two undeserved yellow cards, what about the Schwalbes from both sides?

It was a particularly hard foul from De Jongh although it may have looked worse then it was (the player did finish the match) and he deserved red for it, but sometimes a man 's got to do what a man 's got to do. This tactic was working, had The Dutch won the papers might have red "brilliant Dutch battle plan defeats baffled Spanish" or something.

I prefer nicer footbal but more I prefer to win. Maybe I am not being entirely objective, I hope you forgive me, so close.....yet so far.Sad

Mr_Niceguy wrote:... sometimes lucky on a referee call, but sometimes unlucky. ...

I have seen just the end of the match but I got some sms during the match and heard the radio news which used german words like "Gebolze" and "Geholze" (poor and foul kick) so I used youtube in the morning and searched for e.g. "van Bommel spain" or "de jong spain" (no need for "Iniesta van bommel" because I saw it yesterday).

So every team should be lucky that the match ended with 21 players on the field.

Re: FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa - Discussion

For starters congratulations to Spain. I must say a little hangover for me (well actually two little hangovers)

The footbal wasn't great, it was mostly an epic battle of willpower in the end The Dutch lost were they had previously won every match that is in efficiency. If only Robben had aimed 10 cm higher The Dutch would now be the champions, but it wasn't to be. You need a little luck too sometimes and the Dutch were sometimes lucky on a referee call, but sometimes unlucky. If the ref had given a corner as he should have it might have gone different, but lets not dwell on it. Spain did also have some chances which ended unlucky for them. Spain deserved to win (as they had better fieldplay) but in my opinon if The Dutch had won it would also be deserved (as they had equal amount of chances and opportunities), allas there can be only one champion and for now it is Spain.

Looking on the bright side I would give a big Thumb up to the Dutch players and supporters who once again have have showed how a small country can be great. It was an incredible run and this holds a promise for the future.Big Grin
