Football Banter

Hi this is a new Thread which differs slightly from the International Soccer one whereas on that one its mostly results being posted, on this Thread we could use it for discussions on the game aswell as anything that is of a comical note and is ofcourse football related.

To kick it off I was searching Youtube the other day and came across a rather angry Kilmarnock supporter, this guy is so passionate about his team aswell as being something of a nutjob too but I suppose he shows exactly the emotions of what being a true supporter of his club is all about Big Grin

Well back in December 2015 Gary Lineker famously tweeted this Blush

So it came true and this is the image which I seen when I switched on BBC1 last night to watch the first Match Of The Match of the new season and just like his co presenters I was also in stitch's of laughter too...........Big Grin

Ok so technically this was more like shorts he was wearing but fair play to him as a lot of other people probably would have bottled it. After the first match analysis he turned round to his co-presenters and said "I don't like the way you 2 are looking at so I think I'll go and get dressed now" so it wasn't the full programme he appeared like this but nonetheless well done for keeping your promise Gary Big Grin

Re: Football Banter

A lot of members might not be aware of this but up until only a short decades ago Rangers FC had a policy of never signing Catholics as depicted in this Scottish Comedy which used to air every Hogmany in Scotland Smile

Back in the 90's Harry Enfield used to air his weekly comedy show on the BBC, this sketch takes the piss out of the lack of professionalism in the olden days Big Grin

Some football banter for you all away from the seriousness of what is in effect a results driven business Smile

Re: Football Banter

Clubs want reform but deny talk of a European Super League

Europe’s top clubs are discussing possible changes to the Champions League, but have denied that they want to launch a breakaway ‘super league’.

The European Clubs’ Association (ECA), which represents more than 200 of Europe’s leading clubs, said it will work with Uefa on any “improvements” before 2018.

ECA boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has suggested “a tournament consisting of 20 teams from Italy, England, Spain, Germany and France”. Such a tournament would exclude representatives from Holland and Portugal, whose clubs have won the competition on six and four occasions respectively. France, by contrast, have only provided one winner of the tournament since its inception in 1955-56.

Currently, 78 teams qualify from the 54 member leagues across Europe, with 32 teams entering the lucrative group stages. At present, Spain, England and Germany with four teams a-piece, supply the most teams to the competition.

[i]Following a meeting on Tuesday, Rummenigge said that “stagnation means regression” but promised to “find a good and balanced solution”.

ECA senior vice-chairman Umberto Gandini said there was not yet an “understanding” that the Champions League would have to change but added: “We will listen to the main actors of the competition and Uefa itself and find out what is best.

“We are not designing anything at the moment. We are starting a review process of the Champions League and working with Uefa to see which improvements we can bring in to have the most attractive football product every year.

“It may be just a slight change to the access list, it may be many aspects of the competition that can be reviewed and adjusted.”

There have been suggestions that the elite European clubs should be guaranteed direct entry into Europe’s premier club competition, rather than through their domestic league position the previous season.

Rummenigge, who is chief executive of Bayern Munich, told a German newspaper last month: “A super league outside of the Champions League is being born. It will either be led by Uefa or by a separate entity, because there is a limit to how much money can be made.

It´s just about money, money money. They can´t get enough, and if there will be A super F... league (only for rich clubs of course) I will stop watching football.
