Re: News from the World

A few months ago a certain Nigel Farage stood up in the European Parliament and told the EU bureaucrats exactly what he thought of them. I suspect once Brexit is complete that EU HQ will be as dull and dreary without his regular outbursts. Love him or hate him Farage is certainly entertaining and most certainly doesn't mince with his words Big Grin

If UKIP ever get into power in the UK then I suspect that the days of standing in a pub with fag in one hand and pint in another will once again become a reality aswell as all the political correctness that has over time crept into the UK way of life. The USA has Donald Trump and here we have Nigel Farage.

A lot of reasons for leaving the EU can be justified:

The UK sends 350 million pounds to the EU per week which could be better served putting back into our own economy.
Employment opportunities have been driven out in favour of cheap labour from immigrants instead hence leaving the born and bred UK citizen tossed out on a limb.
Some immigrants (not all) have exploited the UK benefit scheme for all its worth.
How many times do we have to bail Greece out because it keeps fucking up!
Free UK benefits given to those in countries such as Poland just because they have family that is employed in the UK.
We appear to be putting more in than taking out.

Those are just a few reasons as to why the UK voted to leave. I'm not prepared to take sides here nor am I prepared to put on record as to which way I voted. This will remain private. What I will say is that looking through all the UK news channels it stinks of bias. The BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and SKY are supposed to be impartial but not one single news channel has reported this other than a disaster for the UK. As I watched the results come in on Thursday night on the BBC the faces on the respective channels become longer and longer almost as if a death in the family had occurred.

Lastly the prospect of Boris Johnson becoming the next Prime Minister doesn't bear thinking about. I've never liked the man and he sums up everything I hate about the Conservative Party. The man only cares about London and to fuck with the rest of the UK. The break up of the United Kingdom is now inevitable. I will vote yes for Independence just as I did in 2014. The British Union like the European Union is failing. Just in the same manner that the English are unhappy about being told what to do from those who they did not vote into power the feeling is likewise up here in Scotland. A staunch SNP land with no place to be told what to do by Boris and is merry mob of posh Tory schoolboys.

I agree i dont want Boris , never wanted Cameron but then i never want a tory government. Here in London you have ghetto's with just Polish and the Baltic states countrymen. In London borough of Newham English is only the 3rd commonly used language

Re: News from the World

Actually I don't see it that dramatic, for all sides and even more for EU.
Norway and Switzerland have never been in EU and are the richest countries in Europe and the trade with EU is not a real problem.
Some serious Problems may evolve for UK with with losing the status as North American Bridge Head in the EU, and with Scotland and North Ireland wanting to leave to join the EU, their exit would politically and economically weaken the remaining "Little Britain".
A bit tragic is that again mostly country bumpkins and old farts lead to this result, while the young people who have to shape the future tehn have to deal with the related problems.

In regards to EU from my perspective it is a clear warning to our politicians it's not enough to have an economical union, it has to be recognized as a union of people.
This doesn't mean to equalize the differences between the countries, but the people of all countries need to feel represented by the EU.
With the politics of the past years the common man got the impression the EU administration is only working for benefit of major industrial enterprises and financial markets which in comination with the refugee crisis lead to the upcoming nationalist parties in many European Countries and probably added the final bias for UK leaving the EU.
So I hope the European politicians take this warning for serious and do more than soap box speeches, otherwise the EU will crash, and actually independent from the "Brexit".

Joker

Re: News from the World

If Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, are the first well-wishers. If the front national in France, the AFD in Germany, and all other nationalist parties in Europe rejoice.
Would make me thoughtful.
If one wanted to really stand on this side?
The question remains whether the UK have not sent the absolutely wrong signal at the absolutely wrong time.
And has the terror of "IS" not achieved exactly what he wanted, the division of Europe and the limitation of freedom?

2 years ago I would congratulate the decision. But just now, in the times of many crises to leave the EU. Can this really be the right decision? Never ever!

But this is only my opinion

Re: News from the World

I think it must be said that campaigns on both sides remain and leave were fought badly. Too much emphasis was put on point scoring such as Boris versus Cameron. Neither side in my opinion put forward a credible reason as to how the public should vote. Britain's exit from the European Union could effectively now break up the United Kingdom. The very fact that both Scotland and Northern Ireland were pulled out of the EU against their will strikes me as very undemocratic.

Will the European Union now collapse as a result of this, who knows. The UK culturally has always had more in common with America and Australia than France and Germany and was always referred to as the awkward partner. I haven't witnessed anything like this in UK politics in all my life. More drama will unfold, I fully expect to go to the polling station again in the next year or 2 to vote for an Independent Scotland as part of the European Union. On a side note we've had decades of peace with our fellow European countries and I fear that the good relationships build up could be damaged forever.

Re: News from the World

I still can't believe it and I'm truly very, very sad about it...

I don't think that the people who voted to leave the european community are fully aware of the severe consequences of what they have started today. In my opinion leaving the EU will undoubtedly do a huge damage to Britain's economy and prosperity. I guess it will take some years to get a complete picture of the full consquences to become clear, but I can't see how this dangerous experiment could possibly end well...

As already mentioned here there's also a danger that it could change the United Kingdom in a much more fundamental way because Scotland & Northern Ireland want to remain in the EU. That would only be achievable with an independent Scotland and an united Ireland and in the worst of all cases it would tear the UK apart. From my point of view it looks just bad, there are so many questions and hardly any answers at the moment and there are enough signs which show only that it will stay this way for quite some time from now on.

After the second world war Winston Churchill had an idea of something like the "United States of Europe". Years later the great vision of a truly remarkable statesman has become a taken for granted-reality. People tend to forget that the european community still stands for the same ideals. Well, today we only or mostly look at the economical aspect of the EU. Yes, the EU has turned into a bureaucratic monster by now that needs to be tamed and essential reforms are more than necessary, but I'm sure that can be done and we are able to get the ship back on course.

Speaking of a ship reminds me immediately of a Captain named David Cameron who decided to leave his ship today. My impression in the last years was always that he used the EU as some sort of a scapegoat you can blame for almost everything. Never heard him mention the european idea and/or the EU in a postive context. Badmouthing the EU over years, but then expecting the people to vote to remain in the EU - that's impossible to "sell" then because it is simply not believable.

The people of Britain decided today that they want to leave the European community and the referendum has to be respected. The way I see it nothing good can come out of it and I'm afraid the masses who voted for "leave" will deeply regret it sometime soon. Well, the dice have been cast, lets hope for the best and see what the future brings. That's definitely a bad day for Europe, but I also think even more bad for the United Kingdom

Feels like saying farewell to an old friend... CryCryCry

It may be the 16.1 million people in the UK who voted to Remain in the EU or the 13 million people eligible to vote but didn't, or a combination of these 29.1 million people who didn't vote to Leave, who are trying to find out what this means to them.

Rather than the 17.4 million people who voted to Leave.
