Short News :
FIA clarifies rules on defensive driving : The FIA has published the 2012 F1 sporting rules which includes an explanation of how drivers may defend their positions. This was a matter of considerable debate in 2011 following an exchange between Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton during the Italian Grand Prix. Article 20.3 of the 2012 FIA Sporting Regulations says: “More than one change of direction to defend a position is not permitted. Any driver moving back towards the racing line, having earlier defended his position off‐line, should leave at least one car width between his own car and the edge of the track on the approach to the corner.” This does no appear to constitute a change in practice – the rule is consistent with how defensive driving has been policed in recent years. However as it is now written in the sporting regulations there is less room for ambiguity. Teams also face new restrictions on what cars they may use in testing. A rewritten clause states: “Track testing shall be considered any track running time not part of an event undertaken by a competitor entered in the championship, using cars which conform substantially with the current Formula 1 Technical Regulations in addition to those from the previous or subsequent year, with the exception of promotional events carried out using tyres provided specifically for this purpose by the appointed supplier.” There is also a proviso for teams to be allocated an extra set of option tyres in practice if it is deemed necessary – the previous rule applied only to the prime compound. Another new rule states that if a part is removed from a car while it is being worked on in parc ferme, it must be reattached before the car leaves the pits. In China last year Lewis Hamilton left the pits prior to the start of the race with part of his engine cover missing as the team conducted last-minute repairs to his car. Team principal Ross Brawn previously announced that the new Mercedes makes his debut at the second collective test session of the year . It begins on February 21 at the Barcelona circuit. Pat Fry was the first employee of McLaren who switched to Ferrari in 2010 when hes ucceeded technically Director Aldo Costa .Fry's departure from McLaren made a moment later that Giacomo Tortora, an aerodynamics specialist, made the move to Ferrari. The 1st News post of the New Year :
Background: what is different in 2012 ? In 77 days starts in Australia the 63rd Formula 1 season .This year there are again some new names on the grid and the rules changed again slightly.Furthermore, for the first time since 2007 there's again a U.S. Grand Prix held on a brand new track in Austin, Texas. There are still two teams that have fill in a driver for 2012, Williams and HRT, but as it seems, this year there are two new faces on the grid: Charles Pic en Jean-Eric Vergne.Pic is driving for Marussia, the last two seasons have named/called Virgin. Vergne, who in 2011 became vice-champion in the World Series by Renault, boards at Toro Rosso, where he and Daniel Ricciardo will be the drivers for that Team. Furthermore in 2012 a few riders who return. Kimi Raikkonen is of course the biggest name ! The World Champion of 2007, who have done two years rallying is going to work at Lotus, the former Renault team. The 32-year-old Finn become the team-mate of reigning GP2 champion Romain Grosjean, .The Frenchman gets a second chance, after eight races earlier in 2009 for the Enstone team driven to have to replace the fired Nelson Piquet Jr. .Nico Hülkenberg will be joining again on the track ,this time at Force India . The German drove a strong debut season in 2010 at Williams, culminating in the pole position for the Brazilian Grand Prix, but was nevertheless not a race seat for 2011 to decorate. After one year reserve driver to have been at Force India, he can go racing for the team. Pedro de la Rosa meanwhile starts his umpteenth F1 adventure. After raced for Arrows, Jaguar, McLaren, BMW Sauber and have , the 40-year-old Spaniard is now trying it at HRT. Note: Lotus Renault, this year marked only as Lotus. What in 2011 was Lotusis called Caterham this year. Virgin is, as said Marussia. The key rule change for 2012 is the introduction of a Mimimum height for the outlets. That may sound trivial, but as a result, the teams can no longer use the effect of the blown diffuser in 2012 , where the warm air from the vents to diffuse run thus creating extra downforce. The teams matched last year the engines so that a constant stream of warm air to the rear of the car went to optimally use the blown diffuser. Because there was much to do to the legality of the so-called off-throttle blown diffuser, FIA decided to adjust the rules for outlets for this year .Also, the FIA rules for the crash tests tightened. A car must also get passed all crash tests, before they can take it on the circuit.HRT risks for the latter a problem. The Spanish Team fears that the car get not ready in time for the crash test and therefore for the third consecutive year start the season with an untested car again . Safety car rules. They are not tesame every season. For 2012 it was decided that all cars during a round neutralization lag, get the chance to pass the safety car and to retrieve to the back of the field . This means that at the restart the forefront runners no longer suffer from back beams .The FIA has also decided to race a maximum duration of four hours to prevent situations like last year in Canada which eventually lasted more than four hours. This led in particular by television stations for several problems. The introduction of a maximum duration racing know the channels, but also all other stakeholders, will be better where they stand as a race threatens to walk out. If all the races this year continue, 2012 will go into the books as the longest ever Formula 1 season ! As in 2011 there are twenty races on the calendar, but last year the Bahrain Grand Prix not due to political unrest in that country. This year the Formula 1 goes back to the oil state, though some say it's still not pais and quiet in Bahrain.New on the calendar is the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin. Construction of the new circuit had delays for some various reasons , but according to the organization, the date of November 18 is still easily achieved. The race in Texas is the penultimate race of 2012 and at the expense of Turkey that disappears after seven years of the calendar . Adrian Newey and Nigel Mansell started with a happy feelingthe new year. The two Brits received a royal decoration on the last day of 2011 . They may be now called OBE (Officer of the British Empire) and CBE (Commander of the British Empire) .Newey has been named Commander for his achievements in motorsport. The British 53-year-old Red Bull designer is responsible for the titles of the Austrian team and made earlier in his career winning cars for Williams and McLaren. Mansell, who has been MBE (Member of the British Empire) was called, has been recognized for his work with children and young people. The World Champion of 1992 is President of UK Youth, a foundation focusing on the youth of Britain. The last Short News for this year :

Here's what I do not like of this F1 and what I would like to see changed
1. in the current Formula 1 cars, the 90 per cent of performance is now based exclusively on aerodynamics. Too important the ground effects and the airflow work to produce downforce. Perhaps it would be better to increase the ride height of the cars. 2. instead since the end of 2006, F1 engine specification have been frozen, to keep development costs down; but how much money they spent for KERS(Kinetic Energy Recovery System)? I would like: more research and freedom to develop on engines. 3. reduce the amount of electronic driver aids; for example steering wheels on F1 cars have more than 20 buttons. Instead, increase tests on the track. 4. DRS(drag reduction system or moveable rear wing) better than nothing but it is not the resolution of problems; the three best overtakings of the season all without drs. Webber vs Alonso (Eau Rouge – Spa) Vettel vs Alonso (Biassono – Monza) Alonso vs Button (Ferradura – Interlagos). With DRS, the overtakings are artificial. 5. Tyre - director of Pirelli Motorsport said that Pirelli wants three stops to become the norm in races next year. “So some races will be two, some three, and maybe a few four stops just to keep people on their toes. If we can get three more often than not, we would be happy” Is it right that tyres and the strategy (determined by the team) are so important for win? 6. drive-through penalty; too many. Why always looking for a guilty in every accident? From next season, again new rules to reduce duels on track. 7. I would like the abolition of the current “parc ferme” rules between saturday afternoon's qualifying and the race. Especially in case of rain. These cars are not able to run in heavy rain conditions. 8. Save the best circuits. Spa, Monza and other tracks have a story that started almost 90 years ago. There are things more important than money, and these circuits are rich of history and traditions. |
