Re: International Soccer - General Discussion

Serie A, end of first round... let me just congratulate with:

teams

Juventus

out from the worst times of its history, set the new (for the team) Serie A record of consecutive games with no defeats (19, previous was 17)and has currently the best defense of the league (Juventus' Achille's heel, according to experts Smile )

Juventus Stadium
What's normal everywhere in the world is exceptional in Italy: Juventus is the only Italian pro team to own one's own stadium. Congrats for defeating evil Italian bureaucracy and making a miracle: an alway crowded stadium. Juventus was historically used to set new record in somebody else stadium Smile

Udinese

usual "experts" gave "5" to Udinese because they sold strong players like Sanchez and did not bring in new talented ones; according to a main Italian newspaper, it should be a miracle for Guidolin leading the team to 4th place like last season. Well, now Udinese set team new record of point for first round and is three point from the top... with a very "low cost" team.

players

Francesco Totti

last day scored his 211th goal with AS Roma, new Serie A record of goal scored with the same team (previoulsy, Nordhal with AC Milan).

This season he could even possibly reach 3rd place between top scorer ever:

Silvio Piola 274
Nordhal 225
Meazza and Altafini 216

Raffaele Rubino

Novara captain scored with the same team in all (four) professional series in Italy, like just two player before him.

Come on, Milan won 2-1, eventually Smile

By the way, Coppa Italia is really a preposterous tournament, nowadays...
Take Novara for instance: they won the last two games far from home in two knock-out one-game (no return game); then they played far from home in Milan... even if Novara had won, they were supposed to play next round vs Lazio... again far from home! And still a one knock-out game...

Coppa Italia today is made in order to favour the top 8 Serie A team, that begin to play just from 8th final; overall in the competition the rule basically says the strongest team play at home the knock-out game, semi finals only require a return match.
All that in order to please (this time) Rai TV, that broadcasts the event.
If mathematic is not an opinion, a top 8 team have to play just 5 (five) games in order to win Coppa Italia.
If I was Mrs UEFA, I wouldn't accept any team in Euro competition from Coppa Italia...
