Women' s Singles : Barbora Krejcikova won her second WTA tournament in career (first Grand Slam and on red clay), defeating
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (31) 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 after 1h 58'

In one of the most unexpected Finals in Roland Garros history, first set was dominated by Krejcikova, that, after being broken in first game, won six games in a row, closing the set 6-1 after only 32'; in second set, it was Pavlyuchenkova again who immediately broke her opponent, going 3-0 and this time the Russian didn't get distracted and broke again Krejcikova in sixth game, serving for the set on 5-1, but the Czech player didn' t give up and recovered one of the two breaks, with Pavlyuchenkova taking a "Medical Time-out" for a problem in her left thigh, but then she managed to close the set 6-2 with another break after 41'; the match was then decided in the third set, in which it was the Czech player to break in third game, the Russian immediately broke her back in the very next game, but then she got broken again in seventh game, with Krejcikova going 5-3, wasting a match-point and then closing the match 6-4 at third match-point, winning the most prestigious title in her career.

Roger Federer withdrew from Roland Garros ahead of his fourth-round match against Matteo Berrettini, the tournament announced on Sunday. "After discussions with my team, I' ve decided I will need to pull out of Roland Garros today", Federer wrote on Twitter. "After two knee surgeries and over a year of rehabilitation, it' s important that I listen to my body and make sure I don' t push myself too quickly on my road to recovery. I am thrilled to have gotten three matches under my belt. There is no greater feeling than being back on court". The 2009 champion battled through a tough four-setter against Dominik Koepfer in the third round, which ended in the early hours of Sunday morning. "The Roland Garros tournament is sorry about the withdrawal of Roger Federer, who put up an incredible fight last night", Tournament Director Guy Forget said. "We were all delighted to see Roger back in Paris, where he played three high-level matches. We wish him all the best for the rest of the season". Berrettini advances to his second Grand Slam Quarter-final and will next play World N° 1 Novak Djokovic or NextGen Italian Lorenzo Musetti.

Russian tennis player Yana Sizikova has been arrested in Paris by French police as part of a match fixing investigation. Sizikova, a 26-year-old doubles specialist, was taken into custody on Thursday night in relation to an investigation dating back to October for "sports corruption" and "organized gang fraud". Sizikova lost 6-1 6-1 in her opening round doubles match earlier on Thursday while partnering her countrywoman Ekaterina Alexandrova against Australian pair Ajla Tomljanovic and Storm Sanders. The arrest, however, relates to last year’s Roland Garros when bookmakers issued alerts for abnormal betting patterns during Sizikova’s first-round women’s doubles match alongside Madison Brengle of the United States, which they lost 7-6 (8), 6-4 to Romanians Andreea Mitu and Patricia Maria Tig. During that encounter, hundreds of thousands of euros were reportedly wagered on a break of serve at 2-2 in set two. Sizikova was culpable for three of the points conceded, including two double faults, as she lost her serve to love. Sizikova is currently ranked 101st and she has earned a total of $ 206.617 prize money over her 11-year career.

The "Swiss Indoors Basel", a tournament Roger Federer has won 10 times, has been cancelled for a second year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organisers said on Friday. The ATP 500 tournament was scheduled to be held from Oct. 25-31 after it was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic. "It’s disappointing that due to the ongoing challenges of the global pandemic, and despite the efforts and commitment of the tournament team to find solutions, the Swiss Indoors Basel will not be going ahead in 2021", ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said in a statement. "We look forward to the tournament returning as one of our most celebrated indoor events in 2022".

Petra Kvitova (N° 11 seeded) pulled out of the French Open because of an ankle injury suffered during media duties, according to her social media. Kvitova posted that she fell and hurt her ankle during "post-match press requirements" after her first-round victory. She called it "incredibly bad luck" and hoped to recover in time for the grass-court season.

World's N° 2 Naomi Osaka dropped out of the French Open one day after officials threatened to expel her from the season's second Grand Slam tournament if she continued to refuse to attend news conferences after her matches. The move was a dramatic turn in the high-stakes standoff between the most powerful officials in tennis and Osaka, the world’s highest paid female athlete and a generational star who has quickly evolved into the most magnetic new figure in the sport. "I think now the best thing for the tournament, the other players and my well-being is that I withdraw so that everyone can get back to focusing on the tennis going on in Paris. I never wanted to be a distraction and I accept that my timing was not ideal and my message could have been clearer", Osaka wrote on Instagram. "More importantly I would never trivialize mental health or use the term lightly. The truth is that I have suffered long bouts of depression since the US Open in 2018 and I have had a really hard time coping with that".
