It's worse than Dazaman says, Ofcom will investigate with ZERO complaints. Their official policy says even if there were no complaints, the rules could still have been broken. That totally ignores the fact that the rules are about Offence, so if no one complained then surely there was no offence. It gets loopier than that. Hundreds or thousands of people can complain about a show, but Ofcom declares that the content was justified, so the show is let off. This week they announced that 6 episodes (exisodes?) of The Joy of Teen Sex were not in breach despite attracting 420 complaints between them. And thats not counting complaints direct to the broadcaster. Sorry but if Offence is not measured by the number of people who are offended, how can it be assessed? [/rant] Regarding the petition. Some people might be shy of putting down their real names. There are plenty of legitimate reasons. In the UK it is illegal to engage in political activity - including some petitions - if you are a Government or Council worker on a management grade. Some people have religious bosses, difficult family members, or even difficult customers. If thats the case Im sure people can fuzz a few details, while still using a name that is not an obvious fake. (Obvious fakes could get a popular petition thrown out). The only details that seem to be checked are email address (verifican link) and postcode (real/not real). So if giving your details is an issue just be a little creative. |

I'm not an UK resident but I think 2 things would be useful:
1) A debate and a petition about the regularity ot their actions. Nowadays our lives are in the hands of people without any moral authority. I would also never sign this petition with real name. OK, this petition is admittedly only for people from England but this is also possible in Germany to sign a online petition. One can certainly also sign offline with a letter
But I don't believe that change anything...

I agree you are most likely right on all counts but all the ranting about how tame they are means nothing (not meaning you) in general i would still expect more than 100+ signing it, but i think some just enjoy ranting and nothing more. The channels also keep just as quiet so it needs asking are they happy with how things are, they maybe doing things in the background or maybe just complaining about other channels. Babestation will be more than happy as there BSXtreme charges for what this Petition would mean they would be allowed to show for free not quite as strong but stronger non the less, Elite and RLC are always on Ofcoms radar so there best keeping quiet even though its the other channels that create this problem. Its funny really you can complain to Ofcom anonymously about content but you can't do a petition the same, its too one sided for the reason to discourage this kind of thing. Anyway some will try so please at least give them some credit rather than just say it will fail and no reason given, i thank you Bobsyouraunt for doing so. |

I think the issue with this is that people don't want to put their real names on a petition which is readily available for the public to view. It's all well and good using forums like this under a username; my names not Bob and I'm not an aunt. I feel free to discuss my opinions on the forum, I wouldn't however, feel comfortable using my name on this petition when my friends and family could see. It's not that I think there's anything wrong with it, I just like my anonymity, as I'm sure so do a lot of other people.
Personally, I don't watch the liveshows as much as I used to, for the sole reason that I believe they are very tame. If all of the channels just stopped complaining to ofcom about each other then I find it difficult to believe that there would be any complaints. |
