Re: Books and comics

Well, more from south...Italo Calvino, an intelligent writer, funny, his allegories are the wisest and strange books I've read in my life; very funny fables and moral policies. One of my favorites. Our ancestors:

Yes, Modest, she was a lover of Miller.
His books are full of eroticism and ' much more ' than eroticism.
I admit that I have not read almost anything of her.

Re: Books and comics

Well, I do not know if anyone would be interested but I have to comment because it is a must-year appointments. Friday fair madrid home, the book fair madrid 2014 (The first was in 1933). Yesterday Saturday I was with some friends, it is a tradition, a walk in the Retiro Park (where the show is installed), look for books from hundreds booths, find surprises, see all kinds of people and then sit in a pub and comment, between Mahou beer, purchases of one or the other. A happy day for people like me sick of books:

Well, about Books...I look so interesting..Sorry, the photos are of Spanish Editions:

Hiromi Kawakami, a japaneses writer, A delicate but profound writer on how intentions..she writes without shouting because she doesn´t need, between the brain and consciousness without fanfare ( I am using googles translator...sorry). This is one of her books: [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig]

The Spanish writer Javier Marias, he created a few years ago a small publishing company which publishes print books, little gems that the big publishers do not want to post because they do not give money. Marias makes beautiful, delicate and fantastic books editions; in this case, a travel book in XVII century by an important writer in the time to go through Spain and Portugal way from Italy ... wonderful:http: [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig]

Finally, John Conolly..Detective novel very dark, good and evil under the same skin ... the main character is a private detective named Charlie Parker. If you like detective novel and wild meteforas, this is your author; the first book in the series: [Verstecktes Bild - Registrierung notwendig]

Modest wrote:Many years ago,I met a woman from Russia on the train. She was a connoisseur of russian literature and it was a pleasure for me to talk to her.
Her favorite novel was 'The Master and Margarita',written by Mikhail Bulgakov.
I bought this book and I'm still grateful for her recommendation.

Thumb upThumb upThumb upThumb upThumb up I love this book, in this time there are great rusian writters and they have problems with Stalin...another great writer is Vasily Grossman...totally different but equally valid in their attempt to denounce the despotism of Stalin ... he was the first journalist to enter a German concentration camp, the first to denounce the horror. This book had to leave Russia illegally, the author never saw this posted. It is a large and demanding but wonderful book:

Re: Books and comics

Talking about books and films i think it's important that the director loves the book and have in mind to keep the spirit of the novel without distorting it and thinking only about money, it's not basic to have great stars to make the film, personally i hate when i see great names (not great actors) who had nothing to do with the book but they are there only for selling more tickets.

If you love football Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby is a wonderful book and the film (although a bit different but adapted by Hornby himself) starring Colin Firth is also fantastic.

Re: Books and comics

Speaking about what is better, the book or the movie, generally, the book is always better than the movie.
In the book I have more information, more details; the author does that I have occasion of which I used my imagination.
If the author describes something, I give him form.
If it is a conversation, I imagine the tones of voice.
But in the movie, it is not my vision but that of the first scriptwriter, and then that of the director; and not always it coincides with mine.
It is true that in the movie everything is more comfortable, they me it give any fact and I only have to allow myself to go, but I do not know until point compensates me.
I do not know, suppose that others will think otherwise.
