News Update !!!

Operation Jules Bianchi has ended :
According to the French newspaper L'Equipe, the operation of Jules Bianchi ended.Jules Bianchi crashed heavily during the GP of Japan. The Frenchman received on the track the first medical care and afterwords the ambulance transported him to the hospital.
Bianchi was immediately operated on the head because of trauma he suffered during the crash. The operation, according to the French newspaper L'Equipe , is in the meantime finished . For now, however, it is still waiting for a medical update, but according to L'Equipe Bianchi could breathe independently without the help of a respirator . That would be a good first cautious sign. However, it remains waiting for a medical update coming from the hospital.

News Update :

Jules Bianchi suffered severe head injury in Japanese GP F1 crash :
Jules Bianchi has suffered a severe head injury and is undergoing surgery following his crash in the Japanese Grand Prix, the FIA has confirmed. Marussia Formula 1 driver Bianchi crashed on lap 43 of the Suzuka F1 race, going off the track at Turn 7 shortly after Adrian Sutil had spun into the barriers at the same place. Bianachi's Marussia hit the rear of a recovery vehicle that was being used to recover the stranded Sauber. After being removed from the car, he was taken to the Suzuka circuit's medical centre before being transported to the Mie General hospital in an ambulance. He was unconscious throughout. A statement issued by motor racing's governing body on Sunday night said: "The CT scan shows that he has suffered a severe head injury and is currently undergoing surgery. "Following this, he will be moved to intensive care where he will be monitored. "Mie General Hospital will issued an update as soon as further information becomes available."The FIA confirmed that double waved yellow flags had been displayed after Sutil's accident to act as a warning for drivers.

Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

There had been two big mistakes in this Japan GP that caused the incident of Bianchi : first is that the race should have
been anticipated at 11 local time (4 CET) to avoid heavy rain, but we all know that TVs prefer other times AngryAngry and second
is that every time a car goes off track (specially during wet races), there MUST be safety car, but there isn' t a rule about it and
I really hope it won' t be too late to introduce it SadSad
My thoughts and prayers are with Jules Bianchi

Lewis Hamilton defeats Nico Rosberg in shortened race
Lewis Hamilton extended his narrow Formula 1 world championship lead by defeating Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg to victory in a Japanese Grand Prix shortened by an accident for Jules Bianchi. Having lost out to Rosberg in an all-silver battle for pole in the dry on Saturday, Hamilton turned the tables in the wet Suzuka weather of Sunday with a brilliant round-the-outside passing move on his bitter F1 title rival. Rosberg led for the first 28 laps of a race that began behind the safety car, thanks to appalling conditions.
When the race got going properly after nine laps behind the safety car - interrupted by a red flag following the first two because of rain - the German held a small advantage over his British team-mate as the two Mercedes streaked clear in the spray. Rosberg looked comfortable on extreme wet weather tyres, but complained of oversteer after switching to intermediate tyres when circuit conditions improved. He held Hamilton off until lap 29 when, having suffered a twitch accelerating onto the start-finish straight at the end of the previous lap, he lost enough momentum to allow Hamilton to attack. Rosberg went defensive, but Hamilton (assisted by extra speed from the Drag Reduction System) swept around the outside of his team-mate to take the lead through Turn 1. Once released from following Rosberg's gearbox, Hamilton pulled away to take his third consecutive grand prix victory in a race that was red-flagged for a second time under the safety car, after Jules Bianchi's Marussia went off at Turn 7 where marshals were craning away Adrian Sutil's Sauber following an earlier crash. Bianchi was taken to the circuit medical centre. His Marussia reportedly struck the crane at the crash site. Red Bull deliberately compromised its dry qualifying pace by setting the RB10 up for the wet, and its drivers used this to good effect to finish third and fourth. Ferrari-bound reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel completed the podium, despite a trip through the gravel at the Esses, while team-mate Daniel Ricciardo overcame Jenson Button's McLaren to finish fourth. Button held third spot for most of the first half of the race, after being the first driver to pit for inters, but he lost time to a steering wheel change at his second stop, which dropped him behind Vettel, before Ricciardo further demoted the Brit with a firm pass on the inside of the hairpin on lap 43 - a lap before the result was taken. Williams pair Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa started third and fourth, but both struggled badly in wet conditions and trailed home sixth and seventh. Nico Hulkenberg's Force India stopped at the end of the pitlane as the race was red-flagged for the final time, but he finished eighth on countback, while Toro Rosso's Jean-Eric Vergne charged from the back of the grid to claim two points for ninth. Hulkenberg's Force India team-mate Sergio Perez rounded out the points scorers in 10th. Ferrari took zero points from the race. Kimi Raikkonen finished 12th, while Fernando Alonso retired with a mechanical problem under the safety car before the race began properly.

Jules Bianchi taken to hospital after Japanese Grand Prix F1 crash :
Marussia Formula 1 driver Jules Bianchi has been taken to hospital unconscious following an accident during the Japanese Grand Prix. The race was red-flagged with nine laps to go when Bianchi went off at Turn 7, where Adrian Sutil had crashed earlier.
The Sauber was being recovered by a crane when Bianchi went off. It is understood that the Marussia made contact with the recovery vehicle. "The driver is not conscious, he has been sent to the hospital by ambulance because the helicopter cannot go in these conditions," said FIA press officer Matteo Bonciani. "Further updates will follow - for the moment we cannot say anything. We will keep you updated as fast as we can." Sutil said Bianchi had gone off in a similar manner to his own incident. "I had aquaplaning at this corner and the rain got more and more, the visibility got less and less," Sutil told television crews. "One lap later with waved yellow flags Jules came around and had the same spin there, and that was it. "It was more or less the same crash, but the outcome was a bit different. "[The tractor] came out to rescue my car, and then it all happened."

Silver Over White :
The Silver Arrows Mercedes cars of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton dominated qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix. And the white Williams cars were the next best as Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa qualified third and fourth. The ambient temperature at the start of the session was 75 degrees Fahrenheit (24 degrees Centigrade) and the track temperature was 104 degrees Fahrenheit (39 degrees Centigrade.)
Qualifying 1 :
Nico Rosberg set the early mark with a time of 1:33.671 in his Mercedes while Valtteri Bottas slipped his Williams into second place with a 1:34.301. That didn't last long, however, as Lewis Hamilton took the top spot after clocking a 1:33.611 in his Mercedes.
The top teams were using Pirelli's hard compound tires at this early stage of FP1 but the small teams were already on the medium compound. 8 minutes into the session, Felipe Massa (Williams) was fourth and Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) was fifth ahead of McLaren teammates Kevin Magnussen and Jenson Button, and Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo. 9 minutes into the session, Pastor Maldonado (Lotus) was 16th and on the bubble ahead of his teammate Romain Grosjean. With 7 minutes remaining in the session, just about everybody had made their first runs and they were now back in the pits preparing for their second outings.
With 4 minutes remaining in the session, the drivers on the verge of missing the cut to Q2 were: Sauber teammates Esteban Gutierrez and Adrian Sutil, who were 14th and 15th, Maldonado and Grosjean, 16th and 17th, and Sergio Perez who was 18th in his Force India. With 2 minutes remaining in the session, Perez jumped up to 12th. Daniel Ricciardo was now 14th in his Red Bull. Grosjean was now 16th as Maldonado moved to 15th, leaving Gutierrez in 17th. In the final seconds, Gutierrez jumped to 12th, and then Sutil grabbed 16th. The top 10 at the end of Q1 were: Hamilton, Rosberg, Bottas, Massa, Alonso, Magnussen, Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari), Nico Hulkenberg (Force India), Button and Jean-Eric Vergne (Toro Rosso.) The six drivers eliminated at the end of Q1 were: Maldonado, Grosjean, Marcus Ericsson (Caterham), Jules Bianchi (Marussia), Kamui Kobayashi (Caterham) and Max Chilton (Marussia.)
Qualifying 2 :
Sutil was first out for the 15 minute Q2 session. The Mercedes pit radioed to Rosberg that he was fuelled for two timed laps.
Everybody was using the medium compound tires. Sutil set a 1:36.656 to get things going. Perez beat that with a 1:35.089. Then Bottas slammed in a 1:33.801. Rosberg beat that with a 1:32.950 while Hamilton moved into second with a 1:32.982.With 8 minutes remaining in the session, Ricciardo was 10th and on the bubble to make it to Q3 ahead of Hulkenberg and Sutil, and behind his teammate Vettel who was ninth. With 7 minutes remaining in the session, Daniil Kvyat took 10th place, moving Ricciardo and Vettel to 12th and 13th and out of Q1 for now. With 5 minutes remaining in the session, all of the drivers were in the pits preparing for their final runs. With 4 minutes remaining in the session, everybody was still in the pits. It was going to get very busy out there. With 3 minutes remaining in the session, Bottas was the first out. Everyone joined him except the Mercedes boys. Eighth through 12th at the time were: Button, Perez, Kvyat, Vettel and Ricciardo. This where the battle of Q2 would be fought. When it was all over, eighth through 12th were: Button, Raikkonen, Vettel, Vergne and Perez. The top 10 at the end of Q2 were: Rosberg, Hamilton, Bottas, Massa, Alonso, Magnussen, Ricciardo, Button, Raikkonen and Vettel. The six drivers eliminated at the end of Q2 were: Vergne, Perez, Kvyat, Hulkenberg, Sutil and Gutierrez .
Qualifying 3 :
The 12 minute Q3 session began with Bottas and Massa alone on the track. With 8 minutes remaining in the session, Bottas clocked the first lap time: 1:33.329. Massa clocked a 1:33.527. With 7 minutes remaining in the session, Rosberg sliced in front with a 1:32.629. Hamilton could not beat that with his 1:32.946. Bottas was third and Massa fourth. Alonso was fifth, Magnussen sixth, Ricciardo seventh, Button eighth, Vettel ninth, and Raikkonen, who did not do a lap, 10th. That was the order after the first runs.
With 4 minutes remaining in the session, everyone was in the pits getting ready for their last blast. With 2 minutes remaining in the session, everybody was on track.Vettel made a mistake on his lap but got up to sixth only to lose the place to Ricciardo.
Rosberg did a 1:32.506. Moments later Hamilton, smoking his tires on one corner, improved to a 1:32.703 so stayed second. Bottas remained third and Massa fourth. Alonso, Ricciardo, Magnussen, Button, Vettel and Raikkonen rounded out the top 10.

Vettel On Top :
Sebastian Vettel did not end Free Practice 3 on top of the timing screens, but he was the top story of the day after Red Bull announced he will be leaving the team at the end of the season. Quickest, naturally, were Mercedes teammates Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton. The latter, however, crashed with less than 10 minutes to go. But even without doing a lap on the softer compound tires Hamilton was still second fastest. The ambient temperature at the start of the session was 73 degrees Fahrenheit (23 degrees Centigrade) and the track temperature was 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 degrees Centigrade.) Pastor Maldonado was the first out on track in his Lotus. But it was Daniel Ricciardo, who will lead the Red Bull team alongside Daniil Kvyat next year now that Sebastian Vettel is leaving, who set the early pace with a lap of 1:35.885. McLaren teammates Kevin Magnussen and Jenson Button were second and third while Kvyat was fourth as the session hit the one-quarter mark. 17 minutes into the session, Jean-Eric Vergne, who will probably keep his job at Toro Rosso now that Kvyat has been promoted to Red Bull, clocked a 1:35.494 to take over the number one spot. Ferrari teammates Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen had yet to set times. Mercedes teammates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg were also still in the pits 20 minutes into the session after doing just one installation lap. 23 minutes into the session, and Rosberg and Raikkonen were on track. Then Alonso joined them. 25 minutes into the session, Raikkonen posted a 1:35.995 to take over third place. Then Valtteri Bottas clocked a 1:35.380 in his Williams to take over the lead. Within a minute Bottas' teammate Felipe Massa beat that with a 1:35.165. But then Rosberg took over first with a 1:34.516, and Alonso did a 1:34.837 for second.
28 minutes into the session, Hamilton was on a fast lap, and be crossed the line with a time of 1:34.210.
Midway through FP3 the top six were: Hamilton, Rosberg, Alonso, Massa, Bottas and Vergne. The drivers were using Pirelli's hard compound tires at this stage of FP3. Vettel was back in the news, this time because his car was suffering major problems. With 19 minutes remaining in the session, almost everybody except Max Chilton was in the garages preparing for their qualifying simulation runs on the medium compound tires. With 13 minutes remaining in the session, the first drivers started their runs on the softer of the two Pirelli compounds. Ricciardo was the first to set a time – 1:35.086 after sliding off the track– with 10 minutes remaining in the session. That put him fourth. With 9 minutes remaining in the session, Hamilton went off the track and into the tire barriers at Turn 1. That damaged the left front of his car. Rosberg had improved to a 1:33.228. Alonso was third with a 1:34.439. With 5 minutes remaining in the session, Alonso had another run on the mediums but did not improve his time. With 3 minutes remaining in the session, Pastor Maldonado bounced off the track at Turn 1 but avoided the barriers. Meanwhile Bottas had moved up to fourth with a time of 1:35.061. Then in the final seconds Massa grabbed fourth. The top 10 at the end of FP3 were: Rosberg, Hamilton, Alonso, Massa, Bottas, Ricciardo, Magnussen, Vergne, Kvyat and Button.

Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

Breaking News : Vettel is leaving Red Bull !!!

Sebastian Vettel in Ferrari frame after announcing Red Bull F1 exit :
Sebastian Vettel looks set for a switch to Ferrari next year after Red Bull announced that he is leaving the team at the end of the current Formula 1 season. With Fernando Alonso's imminent departure from Ferrari leaving a vacancy at the Maranello outfit next year, the Italian F1 team has wasted no team moving for its number one target.
Sebastian Vettel announced Ferrari intentions on Friday :
Sebastian Vettel only told Red Bull that he wanted to leave for Ferrari on Friday night at the Japanese Grand Prix. The four-time F1 world champion is set to replace Fernando Alonso at the Maranello team in 2015 as team-mate to Kimi Raikkonen. His place at Red Bull will be taken by Daniil Kvyat. Red Bull boss Christian Horner revealed on Saturday morning that it was only a matter of hours earlier that Vettel had dropped the bombshell that he wanted to leave. "I obviously know him very well, we spend a lot of time together and you can see that he has had a bit on his mind recently," explained Horner. "Inevitably a decision like this you don't take lightly but it was last night he sat down with us and informed us. "So all I can do is wish him the very, very best for the future. He will still be close to our hearts at Red Bull, but on January 1 he will be a competitor." Although there has not yet been any official confirmation that Vettel is destined for Ferrari, Horner confirmed that this was the case. "Obviously Ferrari have made him a very attractive offer," he said. Although Vettel still had a year on his contract remaining, Horner said Red Bull felt there was little point in holding him to the team if his desire was to move on. "If somebody's heart is not there, it doesn't matter what you have on a piece of paper," he said. "It has to be right for both sides. "He has reached a stage in his career where he fancied a new challenge, that is his prerogative and, like in any relationship, if somebody's heart is not in it then it is time to move on." Horner added that it was fully understandable that Vettel, having raced his entire career for Red Bull-backed teams, wanted fresh motivation elsewhere.
"I think the lure of Ferrari, a window has opened there with whatever is going on and he has decided the timing is right for him. That is his choice, and he has been around long enough to know his own mind. "He doesn't have a manager and doesn't have people that surround him. He has made this decision and we respect that." Vettel has driven for Red Bull Racing since 2009, when he was brought into the senior team having served a season-and-a-half apprenticeship with Toro Rosso that included a shock victory in the 2008 Italian Grand Prix. The 27-year-old German has won 38 grands prix and taken 44 poles as well as his four titles with Red Bull.

Hamilton tops the time sheet, four yellow flags and two red flags :
The second practice session at Japan began with the sun out but still cloudy. By the end of the session, rain clouds beckoned and a slight drizzle hit parts of the circuit. Back in the car for FP2 was home favourite Kamui Kobayashi who gave his seat up to Roberto Merhi in the first practice session. The Japanese driver caused the first yellow flag of the session after he lost the rear of the car at the 'S' Curves and then the car snapped the other way, which caused Kobayshi to lose control and stake through the gravel trap and into the barrier on the outside. Kamui was fine but the car had substantial damage. Jean-Eric Vergne was the next car to bring out the yellow flag after the Frenchman stopped his Toro Rosso at the Dunlop Curve. The Italian team were able to fix the car when it got back to the garage and sent Vergne on his way again later in the session. A surprising accident then happened with the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo locking up at the final corner of Turn 18, which sent the Aussie into the gravel trap and into the barrier. This broke the front left suspension and this caused the third yellow flag of the session. Ricciardo told his engineer he was ok. A red flag then hit the session after the marshals recovered Ricciardo’s RB10 with the digger but they then left the car at the side of the track at the last chicane. This took a little bit of time to sort out but when they had, the session resumed. The Mercedes Duo and the Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel were the first drivers out on track at the restart. The fourth yellow flag of the session then started to wave after the Sauber of Esteban Gutierrez made a visit to the barriers on the outside of Turn 13. The Mexican was fine and the car was recovered by the marshals. Drivers were finding Turn 1 tricky, after Grosjean and Kvyat went wide at the fast right hander. Perez had to miss a chunk of the session due to his car being stuck in gear. The Mexican was out of the car but the team fixed the problem and Perez got going again. Hamilton nearly lost the car exiting Turn 9 and going under the bridge. The back end of the car was squirming all over the place but the Brit was able to hold and control the car. He then had a snap of oversteer at the final corner, which seemed to be the corner that was catching a lot of drivers out. Massa was complaining of understeer on both compounds of tyres. There were drivers saying that there was drizzle at Turn 11 but the rain never came down hard. The Toro Rosso of Jean-Eric Vergne stopped again at the end of the session with four minutes to go. Going through Turns 13 and 14, the Frenchman changed something his steering wheel and the car just lost power. He parked up on the inside of the exit of the Spoon Curve. This brought out another red flag and this inevitably ended the session. Hamilton finished the session quickest with a 1:35.078. Rosberg made it a Mercedes one-two and Bottas put his Williams third. The rest of the top is as follows; Button, Vettel, Raikkonen, Alonso, Magnussen, Kvyat and Ricciardo.

Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

News : F1 eyes earlier Japan GP to dodge approaching typhoon :

An approaching typhoon is threatening to drive the Japanese grand prix off track. Fernando Alonso's future may be the talk of the Suzuka paddock, but every eye is on the ominous skies above the fabled circuit. "The whole of F1 is watching the weather," Lotus' Romain Grosjean told France's RMC from Japan. "The typhoon (Phanfone) is not far away, and if you believe the current forecast, I think a race at 3pm will be difficult," he added. Indeed, given the late-afternoon race start time and the fact that F1 needs to be set up in Russia within mere days, a delayed race on Monday is not an option. So in the team managers' meeting at Suzuka, the FIA's Charlie Whiting - reportedly coordinating with F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone - discussed the possibility of the race being held on Sunday morning. A combined qualifying-race Saturday is believed also to have been discussed. At the centre of the talks is Clemens Teutsch, the F1 meteorologist working on site with the specialist weather service UBIMET. He told Germany's Welt newspaper that Suzuka will be "dangerously close" to Phanfone by Sunday. "I think race management will assess the situation also in terms of safety for drivers and the public," said Teutsch. "The next race in Sochi is just seven days afterwards, so bringing forward the race start (in Japan) would be a possible solution. The rain cannot be completely avoided on Sunday, but it (an earlier start) would at least buy a little more time. But it is not my decision," he insisted.

Rosberg quickest, Verstappen impresses :

The first practice session got underway at the famous Suzuka Circuit, with the sub beating down on the track through the clouds. The talking point of the session was that of young Max Verstappen, who will drive for Toro Rosso next year, made his F1 debut this weekend after he took over Jean-Eric Vergne's car for the first practice session of the weekend. Verstappen, son of former F1 driver Jos Verstappen, had a problem with the gearbox after it was running at constant speed in third gear at the start of the session, as well as some issues with the handling of the STR9. To add to his problems he then had an engine failure which cut his running short during the final 10 minutes of the session. Despite these problems, Verstappen nevertheless looked to be copying with the pressure on track as he racked up 22 laps and recorded the 12th fastest time, 0.443s adrift of team-mate Kvyat. Williams were trying different parts of a major aerodynamic upgrade package. As the Grove based team seeks to continue its fight with Ferrari for third place in the constructors' championship. In the early stages of the session, Valtteri Bottas survived a big lock-up after he narrowly avoided the spun Caterham of Roberto Merhi, who was in the car for Kobayashi just for first practice, on the exit of the Spoon Curve. Bottas was able to set the fourth fastest time, just over half a second shy of Alonso. Rosberg finished the session quickest with a 1:35.461, with team-mate and championship rival Hamilton in second and the Ferrari of Alonso in third. The rest of the top ten is as follows; Bottas, Raikkonen, Magnussen, Ricciardo, Button, Vettel and Kvyat.
