Ricciardo wins dramatic Hungarian Grand Prix :
Daniel Ricciardo claimed the second victory of his Formula 1 career during an incident-packed Hungarian Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver passed Ferrari's Fernando Alonso for the lead late on, while Lewis Hamilton fended off Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg to complete the podium after starting from the pit lane. All 22 drivers started the 70-lap encounter on the Intermediate tyres, with a heavy rain shower hitting the track just before the pit lane opened. When the lights went out, Rosberg kept his lead on the run down to the first corner, while Valtteri Bottas got the better of Sebastian Vettel and Alonso and Jenson Button jumped the slow-starting Daniel Ricciardo. Hamilton was lucky to stay in the race after dropping his Silver Arrow and clipping the barriers at Turn 2. There was plenty of close racing until the Safety Car made its first appearance of the day, when Caterham rookie Marcus Ericsson lost control of his car on the exit of Turn 3 and slammed into the trackside barriers. The stoppage was extended when Lotus driver Romain Grosjean made a similar error shortly afterwards. The top four all missed the chance to pit on the first lap, while those behind made an early switch to slicks. Button – now leading – and McLaren team-mate Kevin Magnussen were the only drivers to stick with Intermediates for the restart, but they soon pitted for Options as the surface dried at a vast rate of knots. While Ricciardo and Felipe Massa charged away at the front of the field, Rosberg began to struggle, dropping behind Toro Rosso driver Jean-Éric Vergne and Alonso's Ferrari, while Vettel and Hamilton closed in. The race was neutralised again when Sergio Pérez hit the pit wall after losing control at the final corner. The dramatic accident came just a couple of laps after the Mexican was hit by Force India team-mate Nico Hülkenberg, who was forced to pull off the track at the final corner with race-ending car damage. During the Safety Car period, Ricciardo pitted for Options, while Massa took on a set of Primes. The rest of the field stayed out, with Alonso assuming the lead, ahead of Vergne, Rosberg, Vettel and the recovering Hamilton. Vettel baulked Hamilton for a considerable number of laps until the reigning World Champion repeated Pérez's full spin at the final corner, but somehow managed to avoid contact with the wall and continue on his way. After this, Rosberg, Vergne and Alonso made stops for fresh Option tyres. Hamilton moved into the lead of the race for a short period, before switching to fresh Primes in what would be his final stop of the afternoon. Hamilton rejoined ahead of team-mate Rosberg, but the latter was quick to close in and sent repeated radio messages requesting his main championship rival to move over – something that Hamilton ignored. Ricciardo led until high tyre degradation forced him to pit for Options on Lap 55, following on from Massa who had to put on more Mediums 10 laps earlier. He came out in fourth, five seconds down on Hamilton. With 13 laps to run, Rosberg made his final pit-stop, again taking on Soft rubber, albeit used. The German returned to the track in seventh, but soon picked off the cars directly ahead of him. He passed Bottas when the Finn pitted, before finding a way past Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen and the Williams of Massa. While the top three of Alonso, Hamilton and Ricciardo constantly squabbled over position, Rosberg delivered a sequence of rapid laps in clean air, suggesting that he would join the battle before the flag dropped. Ricciardo jumped to second with a sublime move on Hamilton around the outside of Turn 2 and into Turn 3, before getting a run on Alonso – struggling with tyres – along the start/finish straight to take the lead. Ricciardo surged clear to secure the race victory, with Alonso holding on to second and Hamilton narrowly fending off Rosberg, who had latched on to the back of the leading group with a couple of laps to go. The result sees Hamilton trim Rosberg's championship lead to 11 points heading into the summer break. Massa took fifth, ahead of Räikkönen, Vettel and Bottas. Vergne and Button completed the points. Adrian Sutil and Sauber missed out on their first point of the season by just eight tenths of a second. In addition to the aforementioned retirements, Esteban Gutiérrez and Kamui Kobayashi failed to finish.

Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

Lewis Hamilton and Kevin Magnussen will start from the pit lane after trouble during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Mercedes confirmed Hamilton will have to race with a new chassis, engine and gearbox due to an engine fire following a fuel leak

Magnussen meanwhile will also require a new chassis due to a Q3 crash

The Fomula One sporting regulations stipulate
- a change of chassis requires the driver to start from the pit lane.

Rosberg on pole as Hamilton hits more trouble :
Nico Rosberg had a clear run to pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix after team-mate Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes caught fire early in qualifying. Hamilton was the favourite for pole after topping all three free practice sessions, but he was eliminated just five minutes into Q1 when he stopped in the pit entry with the rear of his Mercedes ablaze thanks to a fuel leak. But although this meant Rosberg's main rival was not in contention, rain that struck at the start of Q3 made the world championship leader's task difficult.
Rosberg was the first onto the track on slick tyres with conditions worsening, but with the first corner particularly wet he slid off into the runoff area on his first flier, ruining his lap. But Kevin Magnussen, who was second on the road, also outbraked himself, hitting the tyre barrier on the outside of the corner and bringing out the red flag before anyone could set a time. When qualifying resumed after an eight-minute delay, the rain had eased and while the track was slippery, everyone opted to continue on slicks. With the track drying up, everyone went back out on slicks, with Rosberg going fastest on his second flying lap after a brief spell at the top of the times for Williams driver Valtteri Bottas. But unlike Rosberg, who stayed out and used only one set of softs in Q3, Vettel pitted for new rubber and took top spot from the Mercedes driver on his final lap. Moments later Rosberg improved, taking pole position by almost half-a-second. Vettel held onto second ahead of Bottas, the latter also opting to pit for new tyres, with Daniel Ricciardo fourth fastest. Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa were fifth and sixth, both also having two runs in the restarted Q3 segment, with Jenson Button eighth ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne. Force India driver Nico Hulkenberg was the slowest of those to set a time in Q3 in ninth, with Magnussen classified 10th having not set a time before his crash. Daniil Kvyat was in contention for a top 10 slot, but he locked the rears at Turn 12 on his final lap in Q2 and spun, ending up 11th. Sauber driver Adrian Sutil was 12th ahead of Sergio Perez, who suffered a hydraulic leak during Q2 and could only attempt one run. Esteban Gutierrez took 14th ahead of Romain Grosjean, with Jules Bianchi ending up 16th after an excellent performance to make the second stage of qualifying. Kimi Raikkonen was a shock casuality during Q1, ending the session 17th fastest. With Hamilton and Pastor Maldonado, whose Lotus had stopped early in Q1, not running, most teams opted not to send their cars out for a second run on the basis that they only needed to finish ahead of the Caterhams and the Marussias to make the next phase. But Raikkonen was the slowest of those who did not attempt a run on soft rubber and when Bianchi put in his final lap, the Finn was relegated to the dropzone while sat in the garage. Caterham driver Kamui Kobayashi was 18th ahead of Max Chilton, who suffered a fuel pressure problem on his final run, with Marcus Ericsson slowest of those who set a lap. Hamilton was classified 21st ahead of Maldonado thanks to starting a flying lap.

Hamilton completes practice clean sweep :
Lewis Hamilton topped Saturday morning's final practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix, making it three out of three ahead of qualifying. The Mercedes driver edged out team-mate and championship leader Nico Rosberg, with Red Bull duo Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo finishing as the best of the rest.Hamilton posted a 1:24.048 during the late Soft tyre runs, putting him 0.047s clear of Rosberg as the chequered flag dropped. Rosberg's best time came on his third attempt, after making a mistake at Turn 12 on his opening lap. Although still a sizeable margin adrift of Hamilton, Vettel reduced the gap to four tenths of a second. Ricciardo and Williams' Valtteri Bottas – who reported improved track conditions – followed in fourth and fifth. Fernando Alonso did not post a time during the first half of the hour-long session, but immediately shot to the top of the timesheets on the Prime tyre. He ultimately fell to sixth when the field switched to the softer tyres. Kimi Räikkönen continued an encouraging weekend in seventh, ahead of McLaren rookie Kevin Magnussen. Toro Rosso drivers Jean-Éric Vergne and Daniil Kvyat rounded out the top 10 positions, with the remaining Williams and McLaren machines of Felipe Massa and Jenson Button narrowly missing out. It was two-by-two for the midfield runners, with Pastor Maldonado edging out Lotus team-mate Romain Grosjean, ahead of Sauber duo Adrian Sutil and Esteban Gutiérrez and Force India's Nico Hülkenberg and Sergio Pérez. Kamui Kobayashi placed 19th to put Caterham ahead of Marussia, although Jules Bianchi was unable to complete a lap on Options.

Hamilton stays ahead in 2nd practice :
Lewis Hamilton stayed on top during second practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix, recording a best time of 1:24.482 on the Soft tyres to lead Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg by 0.238 seconds. Having set the pace in FP1, Hamilton continued where he left off when the pit lane re-opened, topping the early phase on the Medium compound. And when the switch to Options arrived, he remained fastest, gradually improving to the mid 1m24s to end the day just ahead of Rosberg. Although he experienced a few more wild moments behind the wheel of his Red Bull, Vettel wound up third fastest. The reigning World Champion was, however, six tenths of a second adrift of Hamilton's Silver Arrow. The Ferraris again featured near the front of the field at a circuit much less reliant on engine performance, with Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen taking fourth and sixth around McLaren's Kevin Magnussen.
Daniel Ricciardo put the second Red Bull seventh, just one hundredth clear of Valtteri Bottas' Williams. Jenson Button struggled for rear-end grip en route to ninth, while Felipe Massa, who suffered one of the session's more dramatic moments when he spun at the Turn 6/7 chicane, again rounded out the top 10. Toro Rosso team-mates Daniil Kvyat and Jean-Éric Vergne were next on the timesheets, with Force India duo Nico Hülkenberg and Sergio Pérez split by the Sauber of Adrian Sutil in positions 13 to 15. Lotus drivers Pastor Maldonado and Romain Grosjean – the latter again severely hindered by cooling issues – wound up 16th and 17th respectively, with Sauber's Esteban Gutiérrez the last of the midfield runners. Kamui Kobayashi gave Caterham the edge over Marussia, outpacing Jules Bianchi by one tenth.

Hamilton fastest in1st Hungaroring practice :
Lewis Hamilton set the standard as the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend got underway on Friday morning. The Mercedes driver clocked a time of 1:25.814 in the opening session to lead team-mate Nico Rosberg by 0.183 seconds. Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen and Fernando Alonso were their nearest challengers. Fresh from his German Grand Prix triumph, which put him 14 points clear at the top of the championship standings, Rosberg controlled the early phase with Pirelli's extra set of Prime tyres. As the session developed, Rosberg and Hamilton gradually lowered their times on fresh rubber, but it was the latter – a four-time winner in Hungary – who came out on top by just under two tenths of a second. The Ferraris were the best of the rest, with Räikkönen six tenths and Alonso a full second adrift of Hamilton. Sebastian Vettel struggled with the balance of his car throughout the session, complaining that he lacked grip "everywhere". But the reigning World Champion still outpaced team-mate Daniel Ricciardo by half a second. The Red Bull pair were separated by McLaren rookie Kevin Magnussen and Toro Rosso's Jean-Éric Vergne. Jenson Button, who claimed his maiden victory at the Hungaroring eight years ago and also triumphed on his 200th race at the venue in 2011, wound up ninth, with Williams driver Felipe Massa completing the top 10. There were plenty of minor mistakes on a dusty track surface in the opening 90 minutes of action, but only Sauber's Adrian Sutil and Caterham's Marcus Ericsson suffered full-blown spins – both avoided damage.
Marussia's Max Chilton was restricted to little mileage after encountering a gearbox problem on his install lap.

The Hungarian Grand Prix - Hungaroring (near Budapest) uninterruptedly since 1986
11th round in the championship.
only one week after the German Grand Prix, the F1 circus goes to Budapest, for the 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix. (25,26 and 27 July) Hungaroring is a permanent track, but has many characteristics of a street circuit, with tight corners and a twisty and tricky layout, where it’s difficult to overtake so strategy is especially important, because it offers a few opportunity to gain track position.
Pirelli has chosen the “White stripe - medium tyre compounds” and “Yellow stripe - soft tyre compound” for this weekend in Budapest The same combination as in China, Bahrain and Australia.
2013 winning strategy: 3 pit stops, but it seems 2 will be enough this year.
Seven times on podium: Senna and Schumacher

2011 Podium: Button(Mc Laren) – 2° Vettel and 3° Alonso.
Fastest lap: Massa – pole position : Vettel 1.19.815
