Histories of fear, urban legends, paranormal phenomena.

In many countries there is known the history of ' the girl of the curve '.
truth?
lie?
In the whole world there happen things that are inexplicable, but there are parts of the world in which these phenomena are more abundant than in others:
why?:
for his culture?:
because they are more impressive or easy to manipulate?:
for superstition?

This is (Knight) Christian Friedrich von Kahlbutz (1651-1702).His mummy is a touristic attraction not far away from my village.Everyone here knows Kahlbutz and the legend why his body has not yet decayed, although he is more than 300 years dead.

Kahlbutz was accused of murder, but he swore in court 'Wenn ich doch der Mörder bin gewesen, dann wolle Gott, soll mein Leichnam nie verwesen.' (If I was the killer, then it is God's will,my corpse should never decay.

Re: Histories of fear, urban legends, paranormal phenomena.

hey friends, In my reasonably long life, spending most of my working life "On Nights" I have
only ever once experienced one unexplained "Object" in the sky.....Yes I do believe we are
not the only beings in existence !!!....... Living as I do in a Town with a small airfield one side
and a Military firing Range on the other we are used to low flying military helicopters and light
aircraft!! This night a few years ago,........A very unsettling episode above, and to the rear
of my house I think about a 1000mtrs above red and white lights were just "sitting there" I could
not make out any real shape or size of this "Thing" It was silent ..I watched for a few minutes
then it just disappeared !! never to be seen here again, to my knowledge that is my one and
only encounter with an unexplained object in the skys' above!!kind regards.Sad

Such intense imaginations are explained here:

The theme is: "Heautoskopie", english: "heautoscopy".
It's a very interesting and complex theme.

It also happens to healthy persons with e.g. to much stress but it can also be an indication for some health problems, it can!

But some scientist say, such people just have paranormal capabilities!

Hope, I could help a bit!Smile

Re: Histories of fear, urban legends, paranormal phenomena.

In ireland (where im from) in my county wexford, there a place called loftus hall which is said to be the most haunted place in ireland. The story goes:
One night the Tottenham family wer playing cards at the dining room table. Then there was a knock at the door. It was a young sailor who was looking for a place to stay after being shipwrecked. They invited him in to play card with them where, their daughter Anne fell madly in love with him. Then while playing the man dropped his card. When Anne bent down to pick it up she saw he had cloved feet. She looked up stunned and the man burst into flames and shot out through the roof. Anne was called insane and was locked in her room where she waited for the man to return. She died on the windowsill with her knees tucked up to her chest as her bones had frozen from sitting there for so long.
Just a couple of modern notes: the part of the roof where the devil shot out can never be fixed. Every time they try, it falls back down again. Also in the family crypt there is a coffin which resembles a person with their knees tucked into their chest Confused.
Anyway, sorry for such a long post haha Cool

Fun fact: bono from U2 bought the hall a few years ago but has since sold it Smile

Re: Histories of fear, urban legends, paranormal phenomena.

The Voynich Manuscript.
I have doubted between putting this post in the thread of books or in that of mysteries.
In the end I have decided on that of mysteries, since it is a question of a book that presently, it cannot be read.
Here you have an interesting documentary of the BBC, on this mysterious book.

Re: Histories of fear, urban legends, paranormal phenomena.

There are hundreds of videos on the internet talking about these topics and showing shocking images.
Only one problem how do you know that these images are not fake?
Does anyone know any really trustworthy website to talk about these topics?

Re: Histories of fear, urban legends, paranormal phenomena.

For me, it is a human necessity, cling to hope, it is not important that it is believable or not.
On the other hand, we have seen and known so many histories to which the experts do not give explanation, which makes you think that something is of true, although the reason says to you that it can not be.

Re: Histories of fear, urban legends, paranormal phenomena.

I feel they are there for a number of reasons and completely opposite to each other, all due to religion.

Times gone by, if you was bad you go to hell or in this case your trapped in the middle of nowhere just wandering as punishment for not believing in god, now the other side of the coin, it was said to happen so people can feel hope and know there loved one is still around but just as a ghost, as said to give hope that theres life after death, not simple minds but more the time these myths began.

Even a none believer will still look behind if earring a noise in a dark ally and nothing there, so you walk that little bit faster, not because you fear what you can't see, its more, you don't want to be proved wrong Big Grin

I've met rational people who have said they woke up through the night and someone was at the bottom of there beds, just looking, they turn to put the light on, there gone Confused was they just imagining due to just waking up or did it really happen Smile

Re: Histories of fear, urban legends, paranormal phenomena.

Interesting topic, my opinion is that we are all fascinated with the unknown and we like to think there is some truth in these legends or strange phenomena we can't explain. Also in some countries (particularly in the villages in the countryside) there is more superstition mostly because of poverty and poor education and people believe in almost everything.
