The Force India driver spun at the exit of turn 11 when a right-rear suspension component appeared to fail on his car. The VJM08 hit the barrier on the inside of the track nose-first, then flipped onto its roll-hoop after it rebounded. Perez quickly told his team he was OK before climbing out of the car. The crash occurred almost one hour into the session and the red falgs were out for over quarter of an hour while the car was recovered. Practice eventually resumed with 26 minutes remaining. At that point Lewis Hamilton was still leading the times with the 1’25.291, but soon after returning to the track he took over a tenth of his best time. Nico Rosberg also improved, ending up little more than a tenth of a second off his team mate. However a further red flag caused another interruption. Kimi Raikkonen’s front wing failed at the exit of turn 12, showering the track with debris. While he limped back with a wing-less car and a punctured tyre, the marshals began another clean-up operation. This was completed with little more than half a minute remaining, allowing some drivers to head out for a quick extra couple of laps and a practice start or, in Pastor Maldonado’s case, an aerodynamic cruise test. Lotus were playing catch-up having done little running in the opening minutes of the session, and Jolyon Palmer failed to set a time before. Kind Regards Shaky - Schumi His fellow GP2 champion Fabio Leimer had his first run in an official F1 session, ending up 19th for Manor. |

Ricciardo : DNF Bat 2 Teams : Daniil Kvyat > Carlos Sainz jr Grid Pos . Max Verstappen : DNF Lewis Hamilton takes hard-fought home Formula 1 win : Lewis Hamilton won the British Grand Prix for the third time with a battling drive to victory in a rain-hit race Silverstone Formula 1 race initially led by Williams. Mercedes' F1 champion recovered from a poor getaway, in which he dropped from pole position to third, and then drove confidently when rain fell in the second-half of the race before timing his switch to the intermediate tyre well. Nico Rosberg finished second, the German able to pass both Valtteri Bottas and then Felipe Massa, who struggled in the wet conditions after leading the first stint for Williams, to limit the loss to Hamilton in the championship, with the gap now 17 points. Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel benefited from an early switch to the intermediates to leapfrog both Williams as the rain intensified to finish third. Massa made an explosive start from third on the grid, slicing through the middle of the slow-starting Mercedes to take the lead into Abbey, with Bottas slotting into second ahead of Hamilton and Rosberg. Hamilton reclaimed second with a pass on Bottas into Village, but the race was then neutralised when the safety car was called into action following collisions in the midfield. The Lotus of Romain Grosjean appeared to tangle with the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo, which speared the Frenchman into his team-mate Pastor Maldonado, putting both out of the race. That incident caused a secondary accident behind with Fernando Alonso taking avoiding action and hitting his McLaren team-mate Jenson Button, which put the Briton out of the race and left Alonso needing to pit for a new nose. At the restart, Hamilton launched an attack on Massa into Club, but ran wide as the Williams defended the lead. That opened the door for Bottas to nip in and take second, with Hamilton having to fend off Rosberg. Bottas closed on Massa and while the team initially told both drivers to work together, it then allowed Bottas to attack but the Finn could not find a way through. Hamilton was the first to pit, crucially rejoining in front of the longer-running Force India of Sergio Perez, with Massa and Rosberg pitting together the next time around. Massa exited his pitbox alongside Rosberg and kept his nose in front on the exit but by then, Hamilton had gone through. Bottas then pitted and rejoined between Massa and Rosberg, meaning Hamilton inherited the lead, the Briton leading for the 18th race in succession to break Sir Jackie Stewart's 45-year-old record. The rain added a further headache later, but gave Rosberg a chance to fight pass both Bottas and Massa before closing on Hamilton. The leader then timed his switch to intermediates perfectly and re-established a gap over Rosberg, who came in one lap later and had to settle for second. Williams's race unravelled when the rain came, with Massa and Bottas struggling for pace and ending up fourth and fifth, jumped by Vettel as Ferrari made an earlier dive for intermediates and then pulled clear. Red Bull's Daniil Kvyat was sixth and nearly caught Bottas at the end. Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez ensured Force India's B-spec car had a double-points haul on its debut by finishing seventh and ninth respectively, with Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen splitting the duo, the Finn losing ground by taking intermediates too soon. Alonso, who was one of several cars who pitted for intermediate tyres early, scored his first point of the season - after four successive retirements - with 10th. It was a disastrous race for Toro Rosso, which had showed such strong pace early in the weekend. Max Verstappen's weekend ended in the gravel when he spun off on cold tyres after the early safety car came in. Carlos Sainz Jr was running ninth when he stopped out on track at the final corner, banging the steering wheel in disbelief, with the virtual safety car being called into action briefly as a result. Sauber's Marcus Ericsson, who ran in the points for much of the race, struggled in the wet conditions and dropped to 11th with Manor's Roberto Merhi and Will Stevens - who required a late nose change after an off in the wet - the last of the finishers in 12th and 13th respectively. Ricciardo retired his Red Bul before the halfway point with what he suspected was an electrical problem. Felipe Nasr did not make the start after the Sauber driver stopped on one of his reconnaissance laps on the way to the grid. The team was unable to fix his problem in time. Nico Hulkenberg : 9th place Home pole for Hamilton as Williams beat Ferrari : Lewis Hamilton claimed his eighth pole position of 2015 and his third for his home grand prix at Silverstone. Mercedes locked out the front row of the grid and behind them the two Williams cars relegated Ferrari to the row three. Q1 The Ferrari drivers felt they had to use a set of the medium tyres in order to make it through into the second part of qualifying. Raikkonen headed the times after switching to the softer compound. However both Mercedes drivers easily made it through using just the hard tyres, as did the Red Bull pair and the Williams of Valtteri Bottas. Having looked quick in final practice, Max Verstappen hit trouble early in qualifying with a spin at Village corner. The Toro Rosso driver needed another run to secure his passage to Q2. But the corner which caused the most problems for drivers was Copse, where they had been warned their lap times would be deleted if they ran wide. Many drivers did so, and as a result several of them had to do extra laps to post a time that would stand. The Manor drivers dropped out as usual – with Roberto Merhi lagging a long way off Will Stevens as he has done all weekend. They were accompanied by the two McLaren drivers and Felipe Nasr, the latter just 11 hundredths of a second slower than Pastor Maldonado. Q2 Hamilton had to abandon his first effort at a time in Q2 after locking his front-right wheel at Village. He did another lap on the same set and made it through, although he will have to start the race on that set of tyres. He was also unable to match the pace set by his team mate, who lapped in 1’32.737 to head the second phase of qualifying. Copse continued to catch drivers out, including Maldonado who had a time deleted as he had in Q1. This time he was unable to make it into the next phase, and Lotus team mate Romain Grosjean was also eliminated as he struggled with his car’s handling. Raikkonen also lost one of his lap and that put him under some pressure. The Ferrari driver had begun his run late in the session and he now had just one chance left to get into Q3, but his final effort was comfortably quick enough. Perez was another driver who had a lap time deleted, though it made no difference to his eventual finishing position of eleventh. Q3 Hamilton’s first lap in Q3 was superbly committed: despite a puff of smoke from his right-front brake at Club, he stopped the clock at 1’32.248. Rosberg, running behind him, was a little more than a tenth of a second off after their first runs. Last year Hamilton had made the mistake of backing off too soon on his final effort in Q3, letting Rosberg in to take pole position from him. He was in a similar position this year: two sectors in it was clear no improvement was coming, so he backed off and headed for the pits. But this time Rosberg wasn’t able to capitalise. “Very strange,” he reported on the radio, “no grip on the left-front”. Hamilton duly claimed his third British Grand Prix pole position. Behind them the two Williams drivers kept the Ferrari pair from the second row. A displeased Sebastian Vettel blamed Felipe Massa for holding him up on his out-lap as they came onto the Hangar straight, disrupting his tyre preparation. Daniil Kvyat secured seventh place on the grid but team mate Daniel Ricciardo could only manage tenth after becoming the latest driver to fall foul of the track limits. The pair were separated by Carlos Sainz Jnr and Nico Hulkenberg. Kind Regards Shaky - Schumi |

Roberto Merhi - Manor F1 Team 1:38.285 +5.368 Hamilton leads gearbox-troubled Rosberg : Lewis Hamilton led the final practice session for the British Grand Prix after team mate Nico Rosberg suffered another gearbox problem. Rosberg, who came to a stop during first practice yesterday with a gearbox problem, was delayed by an oil leak during the final hour of running. However the team was able to rectify the problem, which occurred on his race gearbox, and got him back on track in time to do his qualifying simulation run. With just one lap, Rosberg ended up over half a second off the time set by his team mate. Hamilton was the only driver to lap in the 1’32s, after no one got below 1’34 yesterday. Track conditions were significantly cooler than yesterday – surface temperatures were almost 20C down on second practice – and lap times fell quickly. Hamilton set the benchmark time on the hard compound, lapping in 1’33.333, over eight-tenths of a second quicker than the best time seen on the mediums rubber yesterday. None of Mercedes rivals could get within 1.2 seconds of them on the hard tyres. Kimi Raikkonen led the charge in third place for Ferrari, following by Daniil Kvyat in the Red Bull and the second Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel. Daniel Ricciardo in the other Red Bull was plagued by a low-speed handling imbalance Raikkonen maintained that third position after his medium tyre run while the Red Bull drivers slipped back. Vettel moved up to fourth while the two Toro Rosso drivers demonstrated strong one-lap pace. Max Verstappen was fifth ahead of Carlos Sainz Jnr. The Williams drivers took seventh and eighth, while Kvyat fell to ninth ahead of Pastor Maldonado. Kind Regards Shaky - Schumi |

Roberto Merhi - Manor F1 Team 1:39.878 +5.723 Rosberg ahead again as Hamilton struggles : Second practice at Silverstone was headed by Nico Rosberg – and interrupted twice by red flags. Having edged Lewis Hamilton in the first practice session Rosberg kept Hamilton from the top spot more decisively in the second. The two Ferrari drivers further relegated the world champion to fourth place. Hamilton was almost half a second slower than Rosberg, and reported his car was “all over the place” during the latter stages of the session, and struggled to meet the target lap time set by his race engineer. Despite an overheating problem at one stage Rosberg’s 1’34.155 was a tenth of a second better than he managed in first practice. During the session the stewards also confirmed he would face no penalty for his car being covered up during first practice, though the team was reprimanded. There was little to separate the two Ferraris who separated the Mercedes pair. Despite being puzzled by a lack of rear grip at the beginning of the session, Kimi Raikkonen pipped Sebastian Vettel by two-tenths of a second. The two Red Bulls were next, asserting themselves over the Toro Rosso drivers who fell to seventh and ninth having been in the top five during first practice. Luffield corner caught out several drivers during the session, causing the red flags to appear twice. Romain Grosjean was first, the Lotus driver unable to crawl out of the gravel bed after spinning off. Fernando Alonso almost did the same but he managed to drag his very dusty McLaren back onto the circuit. Roberto Merhi also got going after spinning at the same corner later on, but the Manor driver was sat there for so long the race director elected to stop the session. It was only once the red flags came out that Merhi was able to get going again. Kind Regards Shaky - Schumi |

Roberto Merhi - Manor F1 Team 1:40.477 +6.203 Stoppage can’t keep Rosberg from fastest time : Nico Rosberg headed the first practice session for the British Grand Prix despite being halted for much of it by a hydraulic problem. Rosberg had just five laps on the board and was on a flying lap when he reported his brake pedal had gone long, gear shifts had become “very bad” and “a lot of lights went on on my steering wheel”. When the reply came to stop the car because of a “loss of hydraulic pressure” a surprised Rosberg asked “stop on track – right now?” The decision was confirmed and as the car was recovered Rosberg was able to return to the track in the final five minutes. He continued to report very harsh gear changes when shifting up after returning to the track during the final five minutes. However his final effort was quick enough to beat team mate Lewis Hamilton by just seven-hundredths of a second. Hamilton’s start to the session wasn’t trouble-free either as the Mercedes driver spun at the exit of Stowe. He and Rosberg ended practice over a second quicker than the fastest time seen in the same session last year. Max Verstappen was ‘best of the rest’ behind the Mercedes, albeit one-and-a-quarter seconds slower than the W06s. Team mate Carlos Sainz Jnr ensured both their cars were in the top five, however Rosberg was unhappy with one of them who he accused of “dangerous” driving. “He started to do a bite point in front of me, just slowed down suddenly two corners before the end,” Rosberg reported on the radio. A late improvement by Kimi Raikkonen split the two Toro Rossos, while Sebastian Vettel put the other Ferrari sixth. Raikkonen’s running was also disrupted during the final half hour when the team detected a problem with his MGU-H and called him back into the pits. Nico Hulkenberg’s updated Force India took ninth behind the two Red Bulls. Felipe Massa completed the top ten ahead of Felipe Nasr, while both their team mates handed their cars over to test drivers for this session. Raffaele Marciello drove the Sauber while two British drivers – Susie Wolff and Williams and Jolyon Palmer at Lotus – got to run in front of their home crowd. Both McLaren drivers spend long periods in the garage due to various problems. Jenson Button only set his first lap time during the final five minutes, and complained about being held up by Sergio Perez at one stage. Kind Regards Shaky - Schumi |
