I've come to realise that Scottish fitba isn't really of much interest to anybody well outwith Scotland that is however if you are looking at a league that is very exciting its in the Scottish Championship which is Scotland's 2nd Tier, in it we have 2 of Scotlands biggest clubs in that division in the names of Dundee United and Hibernian but we are both there for a reason.

Hib's got relegated at the end of season 2013/14 from the Scottish Premiership much to everybody's surprise particularity due to the fact that the manager in charge at that time was England legend Terry Butcher who was once considered as a very good manager as he worked wonders at Inverness CT and had them punching well above their weight so it was no surprise when in the wake of Pat Fenlons resignation that the SOS call went out to him to save the club and restore pride, Terry Butcher was so highly respected that he was touted as a possible future England Manager or destined for a career in the English Premier League, this ofcourse all went up in smoke as a bad run of results towards the end of the season meant his Hibs team were plunged into a Play Off against Hamilton from the Scottish Championship, after winning the 1st Leg 2-0 it seemed that the job had been done but they went on to lose the 2nd Leg at home 2-0 and the match went to penalties, Hamilton prevailed and Hibs were relegated and up with it went the career of Terry Butcher in smoke as he was subsequently sacked the following day. Hibs most recent success came at the end of last season when they beat Rangers to win the Scottish Cup for the first time since 1902.

Onto Dundee United, we achieved many great things in the 80's getting to the last 4 of the European Cup (now Champions League) back in 1984 having won the Premier Division Title the previous season after defeating Dundee at Dens Park on the 14th May 1983 to make sure that the league title went to Tannadice for the first and only time in our history beating off competition from our nearest rivals Aberdeen and Celtic. In 1987 we made it all the way to the UEFA Cup Final beating Barcelona home and away in the Quarter Finals and Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Semi's before losing to IFK Gothenburg in the Final. Our most recent achievement was winning the Scottish Cup in 2010 for only the 2nd time in our history.

So both teams are steeped in history and on Friday night at a packed out Tannadice hosted the meeting of the divisions 2 top sides. Hibs are now in their 3rd successive season in this division whilst Dundee United are hopefully only going to be in it for this season following our relegation from Scotlands Top Tier at the end of last season. The match finished Dundee United 1 Hibernian 0. This now means that both teams are level on points at the top of the division, Hibs remain top but only on goal difference. I hope come May that the tears of sorrow at the end of last season are replaced with tears of joy as we look to secure the Title. It won't be easy, it will probably go right to the wire but if history has got anything to do with it then surely Hibs will bottle it again and it'll be them and not us going into the dreaded Play Off's
