Massive alligator startles golfers with parking lot stroll ...

Golfers in North Carolina were stunned to see a massive alligator walk from the
parking lot to a putting practice area at the course's entrance.

[hidden image - please register]

The Oak Island Golf Club, located south of Wilmington, posted a [hidden link - please register] to Facebook
showing the alligator, estimated to be about 12 feet long, slowly walking from the
parking lot to the putting practice area without taking any apparent notice of the crowd
of gawkers it attracted.

Commenters said gators are sometimes seen around the water hazards at the course,
but the parking lot encounter was far more rare. Facebook users remarked on the reptile's
impressive size -- its length as well as its nearly 2 feet of height.

"Wow, he's got better ground clearance than I would have thought! You could putt under him if you timed it right," one commenter joked.

Turin Shroud is stained with the blood of a torture victim, new research
shows - supporting the belief that it does show the face of Jesus...

Experts have claimed the Shroud of Turin is stained with the blood of a torture victim, supporting claims
it was used to bury Jesus. They say the linen cloth, believed to have been used to wrap Christ's body
after crucifixion, contains 'nanoparticles' which are not typical of the blood of a healthy person. The alleged
findings contradict claims the face of Jesus was painted on by forgers in medieval times.

[hidden image - please register]

Elvio Carlino, a researcher at the Institute of Crystallography in Bari, Italy, says the tiny particles reveal
'great suffering' of a victim ' wrapped up in the funeral cloth'. These particles had a 'peculiar structure, size
and distribution,' added University of Padua professor Giulio Fanti.

[hidden image - please register]

He says the blood contained high levels of substances called creatinine and ferritin, found in patients who suffer
forceful traumas like torture. Professor Fanti said: 'Hence, the presence of these biological nanoparticles found
during our experiments point to a violent death for the man wrapped in the Turin Shroud.' The Shroud of Turin
measures around three metres by one metre and contains a faintly stained image of a man which Christians believe depicts Jesus.

The horned chameleon tried to climb the stream of water ...

Chameleons are famed for their ability to adapt to their environment but young Spike - a Jackson Chameleon - is still learning.

[hidden image - please register]

It was the first time the one-year-old had ever been introduced to a stream of water before, leaving him slightly
perplexed. According to @TalkingSerpents, a reptile enthusiast who filmed Spike, the chameleon observed the
water for around 30 seconds before transforming into a brighter green, whereby the chameleon attempted to 'climb' the stream.

Jackson's chameleons are sometimes called three-horned chameleons because males possess three brown horns: one on the nose and two above each eye.

The guy - a fan of the series "Game of Thrones" with a sword drove a stranger away , who climbed into his apartment ...

Buying a $100 sword at Medieval Times is something most people wouldn’t be inclined to do.
Mac Dolan clearly is not most people.

[hidden image - please register]

So, on June 23, when he awoke at 5 a.m. to the sound of a woman screaming inside his Wicker Park apartment,
the 44-inch-long, 10-pound sword proved to be a worthy investment. Dolan, 25, hopped out of bed, flicked
on the lights and saw a man he didn’t know punching, choking and trying to rip the clothes off a female guest
who’d crashed on his living room couch after a night out.

“I saw the guy standing over her, and she was kicking and screaming,” Dolan told the Chicago Sun-Times.
“And I just started yelling and running at the guy basically and grabbed the sword that we have on the wall
and chased him toward the back stairs.” He bought the sword, with its wall mount, about six months ago on
a tipsy pilgrimage to celebrate a friend’s birthday at Medieval Times in Schaumburg. For the uninitiated,
Medieval Times is a restaurant/theater where dinner is served up with jousting and other knightly theatrics in a space resembling a castle.

[hidden image - please register]

The attacker took a moment to register what Dolan was doing.
“He didn’t really start running until he saw me grab the sword,” said Dolan, a software consultant. “Then, he went bug-eyed.
“When I got to the landing at the top of the stairs, I took one cut at him with the sword, but he ducked, and I missed and dented the wood railing.”
The man ran down the stairs. Dolan went back to check on the bruised and rattled woman, call 911 and wake a friend visiting from Boston who’d slept through it all on a couch several feet away.
“While we were waiting for police to arrive, I found the guy’s wallet on the ground,” Dolan said. “It must have fallen out of his pocket. I found a Carolina Panthers hat, too.”

The 'grave mistake' of the fox in cemetery ...

Animal rescuers in Britain said they responded to a cemetery where a not-so-clever
fox made a "grave mistake" and ended up with its head trapped between gravestones.

[hidden image - please register]

The RSPCA said a member of the public contacted the group June 29 and reported
a fox at St. Mary Magdalene Church's graveyard in Leamington Spa, England, had
its head caught between two headstones.

[hidden image - please register]

The charity said Inspector Georgia McCormick was dispatched to the scene of the fox's "grave mistake."

"I'm not sure how he managed to get there, or how long he had been there for, but he really was in a tight spot.
The call came into us at 11 a.m., and as foxes are nocturnal animals I can only imagine he had been there from the night before," McCormick said.

"I managed to carefully free him and check him over -- thankfully he wasn't injured and so he was released back into the wild," she said. "I dread to think what could have happened to him if we hadn't have been contacted."
