Thumbnails/Caps at full image size?

or Whats the forum's policy on the size of thumbnails/caps?

On several topics, posters have kept below 15 caps in total, but have used a site which only supplies full size thumbnails, with vertical formatting can result in one post being 5 pages long.

Can I suggest a limit to thumbnail size and horizontal/vertical formatting.

I.E

200x200 thumbnail size

3x5 for horizontal/vertical formatting

Viewing on Monitor with res 2560 x 1440 and using page down key.

PS. not prepared to change font and DPI settings to match the displayed page.

Re: Thumbnails/Caps at full image size?

Unfortunately, everyone's point of view and circumstances are going to be different on this one.

All will be using different montors and settings, so the forums pages will show up differently for everyone. Some will be using mobile's to capture and upload, some will be using PC's or Mac's, some will be capturing live, some will be capturing from played video. The list is endless, just like the image hosts options.

Some will have and know how to use picture conversion software, some won't have the first clue how to do it. And then there's those that just can't be arsed.

Most image hosts list several posting codes now, for thumbnails & full size images. But most also include a hyper-link back to the image host. So unless you know how to use BB-Code and edit out the links, then most won't even realise the links have been added in the first place.

So as you can see. It's one of those problems that doesn't have a quick or easy fix option.

I think its more a matter of format used, using jpg the average would be 30kb but png for the same cap is around 500kb or much higher, options are teach people to cap in jpg only may solve 1 problem but, i'm sure there will be another Big Grin

Re: Thumbnails/Caps at full image size?

I went full circle with this issue.
Started with smth like 150x150 px thumbnails moved to 500x500x px and now I'm trying not to go more than 260 px.

For me it's super annoying to scroll down through the masses of big ass images just to click the like button (I don't like it that much at this point).
But what is really weird. This caps are clickable, and after clicking it I'm being transferred to the site with exactly the same size of the cap. Simply pointless.

Re: Thumbnails/Caps at full image size?

about the number of caps we have since some years (yes, since some years for the ones who are shocked now ;)) [hidden link - please register].

my opinion about the size of caps is that in posts with several caps (>5 caps) the pixel size shouldn't be higher than 350x350 pixel (as used at the former standards [hidden link - please register] or [hidden link - please register]) or maybe several smaller caps and one big thumb.
but for sure everything higher than 1920x1080 should not be used.
several times in the past caps with higher solutions were used and not for caps of shows but for fun posts in the off topic area when the poster was too lazy to search a smaller cap and resize the cap. I've simply removed such posts several times.
although nowadays most members use a high(-er) speed com and view the forum in full hd we shouldn't forget that this isn't a standard and especially the more often used mobile services with a bandwith limit and small screens (down to 800x600) have serious problems with a posted full hd flood.

we have no rules for this but everyone should act in a way that the forum is most enjoyable for everyone with each technical equipment.
