Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

The result of the 2nd practice session :

Rosberg puts Mercedes on top in FP2 :
Nico Rosberg put Mercedes on top in a mostly dry second practice session for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
After the morning downpour and consequent dearth of running, teams wasted no time in getting straight out on a still-damp track at the start of the afternoon. The circuit was dry enough for slicks within 10 minutes and Rosberg was among the pacesetters from the outset. Force India's Adrian Sutil, morning practice leader Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso and world champion Sebastian Vettel all had multiple spells on top as the times settled down over the following half an hour. But then with 40 minutes remaining, Rosberg put in a 1m32.248s to claim a first place he would not lose, as teams then made their habitual switch to longer runs.
Vettel was second at that point, but his Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber demoted him to third when he rejoined after a long spell in the garage. Force India took fourth and eighth on the first day of running at its home track, with Paul di Resta quicker than Sutil by the end. Di Resta's fellow Briton Lewis Hamilton was just one place further back in fifth, but Jenson Button's McLaren was only 11th.
Ricciardo and Toro Rosso team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne showed very encouraging pace in sixth and seventh. Lotus duo Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen were down in ninth and 13th. Ferrari had a disappointing session too. Fernando Alonso was only 10th, while his team-mate Felipe Massa crashed at Stowe after just seven laps. The Brazilian ran slightly wide through the corner when the track was still a little damp and spun back into the opposite wall, mangling the Ferrari's front end.

Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

Here's the result of the 1st practice session of today :

Daniel Ricciardo leads rain-hit first practice :
Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest time in a wet British Grand Prix practice session that looked for a long spell like it might feature no flying laps whatsoever. Teams do not expect the heavy rain that began Friday morning to continue into the weekend, giving even less reason than usual to take to a wet track in practice one. After initial installation laps, most drivers chose to wait in the pits, leaving the large crowd to entertain themselves before an empty track. Finally with less than a quarter of an hour left Toro Rosso's Ricciardo became the first man to actually set a lap time, crossing the line in 2m00.029s. That prompted others to come out, and ultimately 11 drivers completed flying laps through the puddles. Lewis Hamilton was fastest on a 1m55.033s in his Mercedes going into the final moments, but Ricciardo regained his top spot with a 1m54.249s. Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg and Williams driver Pastor Maldonado then slipped into second and third, demoting Hamilton to fourth. Esteban Gutierrez and Valtteri Bottas completed the top six, despite a late spin for the former. Kimi Raikkonen was the only driver not to take to the track at all. His Lotus team-mate Romain Grosjean, Jenson Button, Mark Webber and Sergio Perez all confined themselves to a single tour then stayed in the pits. Proving that track conditions definitely were treacherous, Charles Pic crashed his Caterham at Club late on. The Frenchman was unhurt.

1. Daniel Ricciardo : Toro Rosso - 1:54.249 -
2. Nico Hulkenberg : Sauber - 1:55.033 + 0.784
3. Pastor Maldonado : Williams - 1:55.354 + 1.105
4. Lewis Hamilton : Mercedes GP - 1:55.458 + 1.209

6. Valtteri Bottas : Williams - 1:56.361 + 2.112
7. Jean-Eric Vergne : Toro Rosso - 1:57.891 + 3.642
8. Giedo van der Garde : Caterham - 1:58.859 + 4.610
9. Max Chilton : Marussia F1 Team - 1:59.719 + 5.470
10. Jules Bianchi : Marussia F1 Team - 1:59.876 + 5.627

Re: Formula 1 General Chat & Discussion

British Grand Prix – Silverstone circuit – 28-29 and 30 june
The British GP is the oldest race on the Formula 1 calendar together with the Italian GP. Since 1950, when the world Championship started, the British GP was held every years, without interruptions. This will be the 64th edition. (46 Silvestone, 12 Brands Hatch and 5 Aintree).Over the years, the Silverstone Circuit, has been changed several times. Despite modifications the track is famous for its high-speed turns and the average speed is one of the high of the season. Woodcote, Copse and Stowe, are fast curves and the Maggots-Becketts-Chapel complex is one of the series of corners most technical and demanding both for cars and drivers in the entire Championship. Tyre: hard compound(orange stripe) and medium compound(white stripe) the most conservative choice in use because they are "best suited to the high-energy demands of the Silverstone track." Pirelli have confirmed that they will not be changing the construction of their P Zero tyres, contrary to initial plans. Instead a change in the tyre production process should now ensure that the delamination issue has been resolved. There will be two DRS zones: after Turn 5 (Aintree) on the Wellington Straight, and after Turn 14 (Chapel) on the Hangar Straight.
Winners, Podium and pole position (last 3 editions)
2010 Webber – Red Bull (2° Hamilton and 3°Rosberg) – fastest lap: Alonso – pole: Vettel, time 1m 29.615
2011 Alonso – Ferrari (2° Vettel and 3° Webber) – fastest lap: Alonso – pole: Webber, time 1m 30.399
2012 Webber – Red Bull (2° Alonso and 3° Vettel) - fastest lap: Raikkonen – pole: Alonso(wet track and lap time very high)
In the past one win: Alonso(2006) – Raikkonen(2007) – Hamilton(2008) and Vettel(2009)
it is quite difficult to predict the pole position time because the track has changed in 2010 and over the past two years has often rained during practice and qualifying. The most significant lap time remains Webber's pole position two years ago: 1m 30.399.
And now other stats. Red Bull vs Ferrari Qualifying.
from 2009 to today Ferrari team only 4 pole position (always Alonso 2 in 2010 and 2 in 2012 - both in wet condition)
from 2009 to today Red Bull Team 49 pole position (38 Vettel and 11 Webber)
Over a single lap in qualifying Alonso is almost always behind on the grid.
races from 2009 to today Ferrari team 12 wins (Alonso 11 and Raikkonen 1)
races from 2009 to today Red Bull Team 37 wins (28 Vettel and 9 Webber)
on Sunday the situation usually improves thanks the race pace and reliability.
