Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova has been injured in an apparent robbery in her home in Prostejov, Czech Republic. Kvitova 's agent confirmed reports of the attack on Tuesday morning. According to reports, a man was able to gain entry into Kvitova 's building on Tuesday morning by posing as a maintenance worker. Kvitova was able to fend off the attack but sustained severe lacerations to her left hand. The assailant has yet to be apprehended.
"Thank you for all your heartwarming messages today," Kvitova said in a statement. "As you may have already heard, today I was attacked in my apartment by an individual with a knife. In my attempt to defend myself I was badly injured on my left hand. I am shaken, but fortunate to be alive. The injury is severe and I will need to see specialists, but if you know anything about me I am strong and I will fight this.
