Re: New Feature: Member Reputation

I recently notice that the rep system develops to kind of work around of the forum rules, being used or abused for some personal offense Confused

Re: New Feature: Member Reputation

I don't waste my time at reading others reputation, so I took mine as example.
I just expressed my opinion.
Anyway I could confirm many things too.

if you think that something should be removed because you think it's senseless for you so I'll have to comfirm that your last gotten Rep is a Bulls Eye. Big Grin

I think it's time to think about quitting this useless feature.
I was rated positive from some people I despise (a lot) and I was rated negative from some people who I don't either know (maybe they thought attacking me would be cool and would make them more popular, or maybe they were looking for 15 mins of celebrity Andy Wahrol spoke about).
So this feature is senseless to me.

Re: New Feature: Member Reputation

In the end you have to trust in the rationality of the forum members and accept it's not perfect.
Every rating system can be fooled and no rating system is objective.

Re: New Feature: Member Reputation

Replacing with the thanks/like button would take away the right to choose and can also be manipulated just as easy as you see the reps being.

The next step then is to give reps for thanks/likes given instead and again manipulated.

Forcing people into thanking/liking would only mean a new way of finding ways it suites them, i'm all in favour of a fair system but the thanks/likes only favours those who post in ETV and would cancel out anyone who posts anything other.

But i did do a quick check on thanks/likes given to videomakers and have noticed there reps count show there would be no or little change in there reps.

In short the more you post the more reps you get, which encourages spamming as well Smile

Thereby the videomakers would have the most reputation amongst members, as they deserved. I think it's quite fair, at least for them.

as Admin made and keeps this place it would be more than fair if he gets most Reps. ;)

the reality is visible only 1 post above.

Re: New Feature: Member Reputation

Dear fellow forum members, dear friends,

well, once in a while this is brought back to the table for discussion.

The oh so famous rep system and its pro's and con's.

As a sign of appreciation for some valuable contibution there is nothing to say against that, and for such cases it has my full support.

However, I noticed - or is it only my observation? - that this well meant system is more and more abused as a one for one, just to boost own reputation, and thus it looses objectivity and downgrades reps given for some real work and valuable contribution.

So here is my proposal, for some more objective measuring, for your consideration or discussion.

As it is already technically possible to count the like button hits, why not use this as the base. say each 50 or 100 overall likes/thanks received gives the poster of messages one point in rep. further we saw in the past, deleted again for some controversal reasons, the dislike button, which could cater for the opposite, i.e. deduction.

Clear this is still not the most objective, as we will further see some lobbying, regardless of message contents, but this can be outweighed by the dislike button.

It certainly needs to be determined how many likes/dislikes are worth one rep. Too high a value may lead to zero reps all over the forum. Maybe each 25 instead of 50 or 100 can do the trick.

Happy objectivity
