In November 2016, the moon reached a distance closest to the Earth than ever seen since 1948, producing a supersized supermoon.

26 killed in church attack in Texas' deadliest mass shooting ...

A man dressed in black tactical-style gear and armed with an assault rifle opened fire inside a church in a small South Texas

Manhattan Terror Attack Kills 8 and Injures 11 ...

A driver plowed a pickup truck down a crowded bike path along the Hudson River in Manhattan on Tuesday, killing eight

George Young, the decades-long music man known for producing his brothers in AC/DC, has died at 70.

Elsewhere Irish comedian Sean Hughes sadly passed away today. At the height of his career he had his own show on Channel 4 in the 1990's which I used to watch on a regular basis. In recent years not too much has been seen of him. Like many people who have hit the giddy heights of being at the top the pressure become insurmountable and eventually the demon drink took a hold of him and he ended up as a washed up has been and although he still toured as a stand alone comedian it was still a far cry from his glory era.

This crime has become the largest number on victims of mass murder with the help of firearms in the history of the United States.
What guided this shooter - 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, is still unknown. But, as always, in such cases, in the American society

June 12, 2016, a gay club in Orlando, 49 people died.

August 1, 1966, Austin, 16 people died.

On August 1, 1966, Charles Whitman, a former Marine sharpshooter, took rifles and other weapons to the observation
deck atop the Main Building tower at the University of Texas at Austin, then opened fire on persons indiscriminately on
the surrounding campus and streets. Over the next 96 minutes he shot and killed fifteen people including one unborn
child and injured thirty-one others; another victim died in the hospital and the final victim died from the lingering effects
of his wounds in 2001, but his death was ruled a homicide. The incident ended when police reached Whitman and shot
him dead. Before going to the campus Whitman had killed his mother and wife. It has been suggested that his violent
impulses, with which he had been struggling for years, were due to a tumor found in his brain on autopsy.

December 2, 2015, 14 people were killed and 22 others were seriously injured in an attack consisting of a mass shooting
and an attempted bombing at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California. The perpetrators, Syed Rizwan
Farook and Tashfeen Malik, a married couple living in the city of Redlands, targeted a San Bernardino County Department
of Public Health training event and Christmas party of about 80 employees in a rented banquet room. Farook was a
U.S.-born citizen of Pakistani descent, who worked as a health department employee. Malik was a Pakistani-born lawful
permanent resident of the United States. After the shooting, the couple fled in a rented sport utility vehicle (SUV).
Four hours later, police pursued their vehicle and killed them in a shootout.
