Using and setting up a FTA box.

At the moment I just have a usual UK digital box and dish, I'm totally bored with the live shows here lately. I have seen FTA boxes on ebay for quite fair prices, what would I have to do to set one up so I can see shows like hot chili and sexychannel. What I mean is would I have to move the direction of the dish and how would I connect the box to the dish. Sorry if these seem obvious questions but I just want to know how much time and effort it would take.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Oh and I thought it would be a good question to have in the technical section. In case other members are considering purchasing one as well...................................

Yes. The very least that you would have to do is move your dish. UK Astra transmits on 23.5 E and 28.2 E whereas Hotbird is at 13.0 E.

Secondly, Sky UK is a very focused system and was designed for the UK. That means that the standard dish is smaller (50 cm) than a typical sat dish (60 cm) or evem 80 cm. It's probably too small to pick up Hotbird unless you live in the South East. The ferther west or north you go, the bigger dish you would need. Scotland is at the limit for 60 cm. So you would need a new dish.

To be honest, trying to find the satellite on your own - you would need a meter - is not recommended. Better to have an engineer set it up and fix the new dish as well.

And at the end of it all, you will wonder was it worth it.
