Re: Curious things that I like

Caño Cristales is a Colombian river located in the Serrania de la Macarena province of Meta. The river is commonly called "The River of Five Colors" or "The Liquid Rainbow", and is even referred to as the most beautiful river in the world due to its striking colors. The bed of river in the end of July - November is colored in gaudy colors, including yellow, green, blue, black, and especially red, the last caused by the Macarenia clavigera (Podostemaceae) on the bottom of the river.

Re: Curious things that I like

hey friends.........Isle Of Wight Railway
The Isle Of Wight lies a few kms off the South Coast of UK
probably best known for the famous "Round the Island sail boat race"(can't spell Yacht}!!
Thousands of tourists invade the Island for these events and of course
vacations
But it is their railway that interests me most! It is unique for two reasons!
firstly because they only use ex London Underground stock. the reason
is they have very narrow tunnels and they are the only carriages to fit!!
secondly It is the only railway famous for actually running strictly , to the
minute, the set time table unbelievable!!! kind regardsSmileSmile

Re: Curious things that I like

Good Morning Friends, A close look at Dungeness Power Stations A+B Sites
Construction began late 50's, coming online mid 60's "A" station was running
the energy was put through a converter station then to the national grid via pylons
"B" station built in 60's on line late 60's started life same as the other to the grid
A town of caravans grew nearby to house the hundreds of construction workers
needed for job, also all pubs and guest houses were full in my town too!!
At off peak times power was sent though to France also
A station was shut down during the 90's B station due to end producing in 2017
it will then take over 100 years to allow the enviroment to return to normal!!
the spent nuclear fuel is taken away by train in special flasks
my wife was a chef on B site until a couple of years ago best regardsSmileSmile

Re: Curious things that I like

Hey Guys, .....Southend Pier,Mouth of River Thames Essex SE UK
This is the longest Pier in the World!! It has It's own Railway System
along the 2 km length of pier.....1800's saw it's construction but It
has had a very hard life! cut in half by at least by 2 ships!! and each
end has been ravished by fires!... the Victorians made this a popular
venue! there were Music Halls, theaters, pubs and plenty of amusements
restaurants, the Life Boat house was also at the end! There were trips
on Steamers along the coast and to London...... Today there are only a
few amusements, and pub! main attraction today is fishing and of course
tourist to visit The Longest Pier in the World!! Cheers GuysSmileSmile

Re: Curious things that I like

Hey Guys, Manston Airport SE UK
This is a bit of a sad tale!!
Manston has been an active airfield since the 1930's
the Royal Air Force were based there until the 90's
but as an Airport never really worked! a few flights to
The Channel Islands a couple of internal flights and
most recently KLM to Holland but sadly it is up for sale
yet again!! nobody wants it! not even passengers!
it is near to a Motorway but no rail link! It is under
the threat of closure! It would be a shame If a buyer
cannot be found!! best regardsSmileSad
