The Belgian Grand Prix - Spa Francorchamps 22-23-24 August
After a summer break the, Formula One is back. Spa Francorchamps, in the Ardennes Mountains, is one of the most legendary circuits of the season and one of the few remaining 'real' racing tracks. it has plenty of exciting corners and long straights. The original layout was formed from public roads between the towns of Francorchamps, Malmedy and Stavelot (more than 14 km) The modern track is much shorter(7 km) but it remains the best circuit of the season and the longest on the F1 calendar. Pirelli has opted to bring: “medium tyres with white markings” and “soft tyres with yellow markings” A different and softer choice compared to last seasons. In the past two years Pirelli has always used its hardest tyres at Spa-Francorchamps circuit. 2013 winning strategy: 2 pit stops (medium 14 laps – medium 16 laps – hard 14 laps) 2011 Podium: Vettel (Red Bull) – 2° Webber and 3° Button. Fastest lap: Webber – pole position : Vettel (Red Bull) 1.48.298 2012 Podium: Button(Mc Laren) – 2° Vettel and 3° Raikkonen Fastest lap: Bruno Senna – Pole position : Button(Mc Laren) 1.47.573 2013 Podium: Vettel (Red Bull) – 2° Alonso and 3° Hamilton Fastest lap: Vettel – pole position : Hamilton; wet condition the winners 4 wins: Raikkonen (2004-2005-2007-2009) 2 wins: Vettel (2011-2013) 1 win: Button(2012) Hamilton(2010) and Massa(2008) 0 win for Alonso pole position: 2 pole: Hamilton (2008-2013) 1 pole: Raikkonen(2007) Vettel(2011) and Button (2012) 0 pole for Alonso Fastest lap 2: Vettel (2009-2013); Raikkonen (2004-2008); 1: Massa(2007) Hamilton(2010) Podium(winner+second+third) for current pilots at Spa Franchorchamps 5 (4 win +0 second +1 third) Raikkonen 4 (2+1+1) Vettel 3 (1+0+2) Hamilton 3 (1+0+2) Button 3 (0 +2 +1) Alonso 2 (1+1+0) Massa Never on podium Nico Rosberg (7 races) |

Lewis Hamilton : 3rd place Ricciardo wins dramatic Hungarian Grand Prix : Daniel Ricciardo claimed the second victory of his Formula 1 career during an incident-packed Hungarian Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver passed Ferrari's Fernando Alonso for the lead late on, while Lewis Hamilton fended off Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg to complete the podium after starting from the pit lane. All 22 drivers started the 70-lap encounter on the Intermediate tyres, with a heavy rain shower hitting the track just before the pit lane opened. When the lights went out, Rosberg kept his lead on the run down to the first corner, while Valtteri Bottas got the better of Sebastian Vettel and Alonso and Jenson Button jumped the slow-starting Daniel Ricciardo. Hamilton was lucky to stay in the race after dropping his Silver Arrow and clipping the barriers at Turn 2. There was plenty of close racing until the Safety Car made its first appearance of the day, when Caterham rookie Marcus Ericsson lost control of his car on the exit of Turn 3 and slammed into the trackside barriers. The stoppage was extended when Lotus driver Romain Grosjean made a similar error shortly afterwards. The top four all missed the chance to pit on the first lap, while those behind made an early switch to slicks. Button – now leading – and McLaren team-mate Kevin Magnussen were the only drivers to stick with Intermediates for the restart, but they soon pitted for Options as the surface dried at a vast rate of knots. While Ricciardo and Felipe Massa charged away at the front of the field, Rosberg began to struggle, dropping behind Toro Rosso driver Jean-Éric Vergne and Alonso's Ferrari, while Vettel and Hamilton closed in. The race was neutralised again when Sergio Pérez hit the pit wall after losing control at the final corner. The dramatic accident came just a couple of laps after the Mexican was hit by Force India team-mate Nico Hülkenberg, who was forced to pull off the track at the final corner with race-ending car damage. During the Safety Car period, Ricciardo pitted for Options, while Massa took on a set of Primes. The rest of the field stayed out, with Alonso assuming the lead, ahead of Vergne, Rosberg, Vettel and the recovering Hamilton. Vettel baulked Hamilton for a considerable number of laps until the reigning World Champion repeated Pérez's full spin at the final corner, but somehow managed to avoid contact with the wall and continue on his way. After this, Rosberg, Vergne and Alonso made stops for fresh Option tyres. Hamilton moved into the lead of the race for a short period, before switching to fresh Primes in what would be his final stop of the afternoon. Hamilton rejoined ahead of team-mate Rosberg, but the latter was quick to close in and sent repeated radio messages requesting his main championship rival to move over – something that Hamilton ignored. Ricciardo led until high tyre degradation forced him to pit for Options on Lap 55, following on from Massa who had to put on more Mediums 10 laps earlier. He came out in fourth, five seconds down on Hamilton. With 13 laps to run, Rosberg made his final pit-stop, again taking on Soft rubber, albeit used. The German returned to the track in seventh, but soon picked off the cars directly ahead of him. He passed Bottas when the Finn pitted, before finding a way past Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen and the Williams of Massa. While the top three of Alonso, Hamilton and Ricciardo constantly squabbled over position, Rosberg delivered a sequence of rapid laps in clean air, suggesting that he would join the battle before the flag dropped. Ricciardo jumped to second with a sublime move on Hamilton around the outside of Turn 2 and into Turn 3, before getting a run on Alonso – struggling with tyres – along the start/finish straight to take the lead. Ricciardo surged clear to secure the race victory, with Alonso holding on to second and Hamilton narrowly fending off Rosberg, who had latched on to the back of the leading group with a couple of laps to go. The result sees Hamilton trim Rosberg's championship lead to 11 points heading into the summer break. Massa took fifth, ahead of Räikkönen, Vettel and Bottas. Vergne and Button completed the points. Adrian Sutil and Sauber missed out on their first point of the season by just eight tenths of a second. In addition to the aforementioned retirements, Esteban Gutiérrez and Kamui Kobayashi failed to finish. Kind Regards Shaky - Schumi |

Lewis Hamilton and Kevin Magnussen will start from the pit lane after trouble during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Mercedes confirmed Hamilton will have to race with a new chassis, engine and gearbox due to an engine fire following a fuel leak Magnussen meanwhile will also require a new chassis due to a Q3 crash The Fomula One sporting regulations stipulate - a change of chassis requires the driver to start from the pit lane. |
