Sebastian Vettel has been handed a five-place grid penalty after being found to have passed Roberto Mehri' s Marussia while
under red flags in FP3 in Canada. Also Toro Rosso' s Max Verstappen, who was 12th fastest, faces a combined -15 place grid drop, thanks to his collision in Monaco and an unscheduled engine change. |

Jenson Button - McLaren - no time Qualifying Time : 1:14.393 Pole : Lewis Hamilton Team Bat. : L.Hamilton > N. Rosberg Grid Pos. K. Raikkonen : 3rd place Hamilton beats Rosberg to pole as Vettel falls in Q1 : Lewis Hamilton took his sixth pole position in seven races after winning a tight battle with team mate Nico Rosberg in Canada. It was nip-and-tuck between the two drivers for most of qualifying, but in the final top ten shoot-out Hamilton’s first run proved quick enough for pole position.Kimi Raikkonen put his Ferrari third on the grid but Sebastian Vettel was eliminated in the first phase of qualifying after a problem with his engine. Q1 First blood went to Rosberg by just two thousandths of a second as qualifying began, the two Mercedes only using the harder soft tyres. But Kimi Raikkonen got within four-tenths of a second of them on the same rubber on his first run. But the other Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel made a beeline back to the pits without setting a time as the team discovered a problem with his MGU-H. He was despatched back onto the track with enough time to do two laps – but he fell short by three-tenths of a second. Vettel’s elimination wasn’t the only shock in Q1. Felipe Massa was also nursing a problem with his Williams, complaining he had “no power”, and ended the session half-a-second off Vettel. The two Manors were eliminated as usual, and Jenson Button never left the garage as his mechanics were unable to replaced his damaged power unit from the first practice session. Q2 Mercedes showed their true pace as the second part of qualifying began – but still there was little to choose between the two drivers. Rosberg flew through the first two sectors on his was to a 1’14.673. But Hamilton, following along behind him, delivered a stunning final sector to nab the fastest time by 12 thousandths of a second. Aside from Massa, who had already been eliminated, the seven remaining Mercedes-powered cars all took up places in Q3. That left room only for Raikkonen and the two Red Bulls – Daniel Ricciardo pipping Carlos Sainz to the final top ten place by less than four hundredths of a second. Sainz out-qualified Max Verstappen but the two Toro Rossos will be several places apart on the grid as Verstappen will have to take two penalties.A scruffy lap by Nasr left him last of the drivers in the drop zone – his engineer believed a time closer to Ericsson’s was possible. Nasr made a point of thanking his mechanics on the radio for their efforts in getting his car ready for qualifying at all following his crash in practice. Q3 Rosberg couldn’t beat his Q2 benchmark with his first run in the top-ten shoot-out – but Hamilton could. While Rosberg complained of a lack of rear grip – which his team put down to a problem with his set of tyres – Hamilton produced a 1’14.393 which put him over three-tenths clear of his team mate. Neither driver was able to improve on their final run, and with none of their rivals able to break the 75-second barrier that cemented pole position for Hamilton. “What a rubbish end to qualifying,” Rosberg lamented. Raikkonen held on to third place despite a lurid moment at turn four where he skirted the barrier. Valtteri Bottas pipped the two Lotus drivers to fourth place – the black-and-gold cars surprisingly emerged from the pits side-by-side at one stage. Nico Hulkenberg put his Force India in seventh with the two Red Bulls between him and Sergio Perez. Kind Regards Shaky - Schumi |

Hamilton - Mercedes 01:21.492 Rosberg on top as Nasr crash disrupts practice : Nico Rosberg led a disrupted final practice session for the Canadian Grand Prix which was red-flagged twice. Yesterday’s rain left the track in poor condition, with several drivers reporting a lack of grip during their first runs. Kimi Raikkonen led the way initially, lapping just a thousandth of a second quicker than Rosberg. With just over 20 minutes to go the first drivers were beginning their runs on super-soft tyres. However Felipe Nasr, who was running a used set of the harder soft tyres, lost control of his car on the straight leading to the final chicane. The Sauber driver had opened his DRS while he weaved to increase his tyre temperatures, and the C34 spun towards the inside of the circuit. The result was a huge crash. The Sauber’s front nose was destroyed as it made heavy contact with a solid barrier, and debris was thrown across the track. Nasr climbed from the wreckage and it was later confirmed by his team he is “OK”. The session was red-flagged and eventually resumed with 12 minutes remaining. That left little time for the remaining runners to get their super-soft runs completed. They rejoined the track immediately after the track went green again, but within a few minutes the session had been red-flagged again. This time the cause was Jenson Button, who stopped his McLaren at the exit of turn seven after reporting a problem with his power unit. His team mate had only just joined the track for the first time having been stuck in the garage with a problem of his own. It was particularly bad news for Friday pace-setter Hamilton, who had not set a quick lap early in the session on soft tyres, and who went off at turn one when he began his first run on super-softs. By the end of the first 90 minutes of running Hamilton’s best effort was over a second quicker than the best time seen in last year’s first practice session. It wasn’t an entirely trouble-free session for the championship leader, however. He spoiled one lap with a spin, and said on the radio afterwards he’d been caught out by his car locking up. Nico Rosberg ended the session four-tenths of a second slower than his team mate. Mercedes-powered cars filled the top four places, with Romain Grosjean and Nico Hulkenberg putting Williams and Force India well up. Sebastian Vettel was almost 1.7 seconds off Hamilton’s pace in the Ferrari, while Daniil Kvyat was the highest-placed Renault powered driver in seventh. Fernando Alonso took ninth for McLaren, but the team had problems with their other car. Jenson Button’s session was disrupted by a gearbox problem which left him stuck in second gear. He lost around half an hour while the fault was fixed. A late improvement by Max Verstappen put the Toro Rosso driver in tenth place. But at the end of the session Carlos Sainz Jnr had to abort a run when his car stopped at the pit lane exit with an apparent engine problem . Kind Regards Shaky - Schumi |

F.Massa : 15th place Rosberg luck turns into third Monaco win in a row : Nico Rosberg took a surprise third consecutive Monaco Grand Prix victory in a race which his team mate was dominating until a late Safety Car period. Lewis Hamilton was leading comfortably until a collision between Max Verstappen and Romain Grosjean caused the Safety Car deployment which changed the outcome of the race. Mercedes took the opportunity to give Hamilton a fresh set of tyres, but he was unable to rejoin the track before the chasing Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel arrived. After the Safety Car came in Hamilton was unable to pass the Ferrari driver for second place, leaving Rosberg to win as he pleased. Hamilton briefly came under pressure from Daniel Ricciardo, who had adopted the same strategy, overtaken Kimi Raikkonen and been waved through by team mate Daniil Kvyat. Having failed to pass Hamilton, Ricciardo let Kvyat back into fourth on the final tour. Raikkonen took sixth ahead of Sergio Perez while Jenson Button claimed McLaren’s first points of the season with eighth place. Team mate Fernando Alonso retired with a technical problem. Felipe Nasr and Carlos Sainz Jnr completed the points scorers, the latter having started from the pit lane. Kind Regards Shaky - Schumi |

Alonso : 15th place Lewis Hamilton takes Monaco GP Formula 1 pole for first time : Lewis Hamilton comfortably claimed pole position for the Monaco Grand Prix, as his Mercedes Formula 1 team-mate Nico Rosberg's qualifying challenge went awry. The two Mercedes drivers were once again well clear of the rest of the field on pure pace and thus engaged in an exclusive battle for the top spot. Hamilton trailed Rosberg by nearly four tenths of a second after Q2, but reversed the positions by just over a tenth of a second after their first runs in the top-10 shootout. Hamilton found even more time on his final run in Q3, while Rosberg abandoned his after locking up heavily at Sainte Devote. That left Hamilton 0.342 seconds clear in claiming his first pole position in Monte Carlo. Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel was the only other driver to lap below 1m16s as he secured third spot on the grid, just under two tenths of a second ahead of Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, who also failed to improve on his second run in Q3. Team-mate Daniil Kvyat did find time on his second run to place fifth, ahead of the second Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen.Force India's Sergio Perez hustled the VJM08 to a superb seventh spot, just ahead of Carlos Sainz, Pastor Maldonado and Max Verstappen, who all ended up on the same tenth in eighth, ninth and 10th. Romain Grosjean failed to join his Lotus team-mate Maldonado in the top 10 shootout, after locking up at the second part of the Swimming Pool on his quickest lap in Q2. An expected five-place grid penalty for a gearbox change ahead of the event means he should start 16th for Sunday's race. McLaren-Honda was confident of getting both cars through to Q3 for the first time this season, but neither made the cut in the end. Fernando Alonso's car suffered a suspected electrical problem before he could complete a flying lap in Q2, while team-mate Jenson Button was less than a tenth of a second away from making the top 10, something he described as "painful" when he learned of his fate, having had to slow for yellow flags (after Rosberg locked up and went off at Ste Devote) on his final flying lap. Force India's Nico Hulkenberg was lucky to get away with striking the wall at Mirabeau in Q1 and ended up 13th fastest overall, just under 0.2s adrift of team-mate Perez. Williams struggled badly in Monaco, with Felipe Massa winding up 14th fastest while team-mate Valtteri Bottas ended up being the highest-profile casualty in Q1. The Finn was more than six tenths of a second away from making the cut and wound up 17th fastest, between the Saubers of Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson. The Manor/Marussias were over two seconds further back in filling the final row of the grid. Will Stevens was three tenths faster than team-mate Roberto Merhi through the first sector of their quickest laps, which proved crucial in the final reckoning. Kind Regards Shaky - Schumi |

Raikkonen slid wide at Sainte Devote mid-way through the session and hit the barrier with his left-rear wheel. The damaged Ferrari came to a stop at the opposite side of the track and the session had to be stopped while it was recovered. The two Mercedes were next, Nico Rosberg ahead of Lewis Hamilton. The latter headed much of the final practice session but told his team on the radio something was “not right” with his car, a problem race engineer Peter Bonnington suspected was due to his tyres being over-pressured. Daniel Ricciardo was fourth for Red Bull ahead of Carlos Sainz Jnr, whose team mate Max Verstappen was another driver to make contact with the wall. Verstappen spun backwards into the barrier at Anthony Noghes, damaging a rear end plate on his Toro Rosso, but was able to continue. Despite his crash Raikkonen ended the session seventh ahead of Daniil Kvyat and the McLaren of Jenson Button. Verstappen and Romain Grosjean, who will take a five-place grid penalty, completed the top ten. Kind Regards Shaky - Schumi |
