Indeed, an old trick of many dial-in shows. They had many lines, and a caller would only get through if the line was 'open' at the time the connection was made. Ofcourse the lines were almost never open, so most callers payed their good money to hear an answering machine say 'sorry, better luck next time'.

Others used endless waiting loops, at 3 euro a minute....

If I'm not mistaken, in Holland those call-in gameshows were forbidden because the callers did not have a reasonable chance to get through. therefor they were considered a lottery (requiring a licence) and not a game show.

I'd seen short and bad quality clips of that, so nice to see it properly. Any more TVL Telesierra clips around?

These were taken from repeats, which does not make them less spectacular in any way.

It's easy to tell, if you know what to look for.

The live shows of the first two series were cleanfeed with sound, no overlays at all, apart from the obvious blend-in of the phone numbers to call at the bottom of the screen. The 'original' repeats would have no sound but a continuously repeated voice-over. I can't remember if the phone numbers were still there or if they had a chat area to blind them.

The original 3rd and 4th series (in the small studio) had a semi-transparent chat area at the bottom of the screen, just below the phone number. The repeats would have a somewhat different non-transparent chat area that blended the phonenumber and some 95% of the original chat..

The last series had a blue chat area at the bottom of the screen and the channel-logo and a phonenumber were placed in a vertical bar at the left hand side of the screen much the same as you see in these clips from TVL.

After the show finally got defunct, they would only show repeats from the last 3 series and on some rare occasions a small part of an episode from the second series. I never saw a repeat of any of the first series other than in the first season itself. The first batch of later repeats -and the presented clips are indeed taken from this batch- had a black chatbox overlaying the original blue chat. Some were repeated without the original sound. Later still, the repeats would be in smaller frames, first clipped, later resized much the way as we see today on Canal 53 and Cubo TV.

Note that there is no actual intercourse going on (sorry to disappoint you, guys). The mexican couple was the only one to do that, the other models occasionally used toys and were not shy of a blow job, but the rest was fake.

The guy  was originally a walk-in guest (you could call in and get invited to join) from the 2nd series, one of the few that managed to 'perform' live on TV. The blackhaired girl that does all the 'rubbing' used to be a couch potatoe in the first two series. She looked much better when she still had her dress on.

I always liked the loudmouth redhaired presenter, she had great sex-appeal. I long time thought she was Peters daughter (why else would one work there?) but apparently she was not. I'm not aware that she ever even unbuttoned the very top of her blouse, though at least one time she presented bra-less in a T-shirt. It was a pleasant day.
