Some members of this forum would say that we bury ETV every week but now the signs are more compelling than ever. This, indeed, seems like cost cutting extreme.
This whole ETV saga is like being trapped in a time loop, things repeating themselves in cycles after years again and again. Let's just read what was written about ETV on this very website in the channel description about the year 2011, which some consider part of the golden years: "However in 2011 the regulator's censorship rules have been observed much more strictly. Wax, ropes, touching (in a sexual way) and close-up shots of fully naked girls have been banned. This has effectively abolished any interaction between the girls. At the same time, etv closed most of its daytime programming." |

Now that ETV have ceased Exclusive Shows in the morning and afternoon, is this cost cutting to the point of near closure? Or retreating back to their core TV service?

Hi I stand corrected. But the cost is still nearly not as high as you say. Average transponder price in 2012 in Western Europe was about $3.2 million per year, which is roughly $266000 per month. But that particular transponder is shared by 8 TV channels, you can verify this on Lyngsat or any other website dedicated to satellite info. So $266000 divided by 8 is $33000 per month, but this doesn't take into account the bandwidth of the channel and multiyear contract discounts. |

According to average transponder prices the Astra feed costs them around 7500 Dollars per month, the two Hotbird transponders are probably even cheaper. So by switching off the TV signal they would save about 20000 dollars a month, but lose more as there would be no exposure to their web content.
And the web is a big space with big competition for ETV to go web only, with literally millions of porn and erotic websites (around 4.2 million pages in 2006, or 12% of the web, source: [hidden link - please register] , since then probably many more) Though I didn't watch the channel in the days of their big glory it is intriguing that in the times of mostly FTA 5-6 years ago they could make enough revenue to invest in projects like the Office Show, All Night Shower Show, countless artistic premium shoiws which I know only from here from some vid s and vidcaps, also invest in the big wet studio (pity it's not used now), etc. |

And yes no one here had outed that he/she had found etv on another way than the tv, but some web enthusiasts or ex fanboys think the only glory way to the future is the internet and etv can stop the tv transmission to reduce costs. All other said without tv etv is dead and this I think knows the etv boss also, or they had stop tv within the last year. For me the only way for etv to reduce cost in a short time, is to stop the internet project, consolidate the tv customer that etv earn enough money and this means for me stop all this horrible tv shows formats, back to classic tv show with high quality pictures and hot action on tv and satisfied customer who make calls, send wishes and buys videos. To reduce costs in both tv and web would only drops quality in both and at the end destroys both. |
